Dynamic DNS possible with Swisscom "Natel Data"

    I’m trying to use Dynamic DNS (and port forwarding) with Natel data S using a TP-Link MR200 mobile router. No success so far. The IP address allocated to the router’s “wan” side is 10.x.x.x, i.e. private, while the IP address reported by the dyndns agent to dyn.com is 178.197.226.251. The fact that my mobile router’s IP WAN address is public could mean that Swisscom’s setup bans the use of DDNS through Natel data S, however I’m not sure.

    Any suggestions or comments?

      Mobile Devices get an RFC1918 (private) IP address and no public IP.
      To access the internet, your connection goes through NAT (cgnat).
      Because of that, it is not possible to use any DYNDNS service.
      It is also not possible to connect from the internet to your device.

      The only solution would be to let the router open a VPN and connect through that.

    In the mean time, I carried out further invstigations and found a Swisscom competitor allegedly assigning private IP addresses to mobile connexions. I’ll make tests.

    On a general note, I think Swisscom would be wise to consider some form of Natel Data plan with low volume + private address or other mean of external connexion request to address some IOT requirements.
