DSL Signal lost for 3-5 minutes every day at least once a day.

Hello,

I have since a long time I have many connections lost (DSL signal). But now it becomes more and more often and annoying. I didn't find any fix on the forum for my problem,

I live in a recent PPE appartement (built on 2010). The connection/cable should be fine and the DSL point is in a local of my PPE, so it's very close.

As far as I remember, I didn't face any issue at the beggning (got the modem Centro Piccolo, before to upgrade to Centro Grande). Since I changed the modem to Grande, I think I started to get the connection lost time to time (but I'm not 100% sure). The last month was horrible, so many connections lost.

When it's arriving while surfing : A default error page served by the modem indicate 2 different messages (randomly ?): (translated from French)

- Modem is not able to establish connection to Internet

- Unfortunately the modem is STILL not able to establish connection to Internet

And when I play some games, I got connection lost.

My internal network is working fine, I can ping and reach every element inside my LAN (cable Ethernet RJ45). The issue is clearly between the Modem and the DSL Central point (or the modem it-self). The DSL signal led is blinking when the issue is happening.

I use the filter provided with the modem, to avoid any question about this.

Modem : Centro Grande - ARRIS 7647-47 VDSL

I tried to read the log in the diagnostic page of the modem, but I'm not able to understand the error message. Logs of the modem during the issue, I guess the red lines are indicating the issue :

I already asked swisscom to check my issue in the past, they checked the line and found nothing... and the issue is still present. But now I'm tired to lose the connection so often, so I post a message.

I work in IT and with my knowledge, I suspect :

  1. Modem issue
  2. Connectionissue/disruption between my appartment and the DSL point
  3. Issue in the DSL Central Point of my the local of my PPE

Any one has ideas or suggestions ?

Does someone can understand the Modem logs ?

Thanks in advance for those who tooks time to read this LONG post 😉

You can reply in french or english if you want.

My outage is not as frequent as yours and with IP telephony going down it is a serious matter when you know "it should work."

I think it is a mix of technology poorly manufactured and packaged to cope with the load and no updates to the firmware.

Swisscom tell me I have their "top" quality router and best DECT phones according to support.

Yet I suspect the router has been "dressed up" in its plastic box to look nice and modern BUT with the diagnostics screen and lack of venting it has an overheating problem causing the outage.

My problem, it seems always to be only once a week, intermittant, so you cannot get a fix on the problem, simply reboot. We find the problem is like an acne spot growing larger but not annoying enough to have Swisscom support be popped!

Our other building provider Cablecom just sits there and produces good service, no pain at all ,,,,,, maybe because it is a ugly black box doing what it says on the packet!

You have maybe helped to figure an issue. The overheat is certainly an issue. I have added a small fan close to the modem and since then, the device is really more stable. I hope this quick fix will be enough. No connection lost during the last week.

FInal result is not good. The modem is still not stable... no fix found... last solution is to change this VDSL modem/router.
