Calls Charged EU/UK

I have been a Swisscom mobile subscribers for over 20 years. I have a “in-one” mobile subscription and on my last bill, and for the first time since the introduction of the in-one package, I have been charged for calls to the UK.

My contract clearly states “unlimited calls within Switzerland” & “unlimited calls within the EU and UK”.

I called Swisscom and the customer service person, told me that I was charged correctly as the aforementioned sentence means that you will not be charged for calls when you are INSIDE the EU, but if you make a call to the EU from Switzerland you will be charged. This is the first time I hear of this. So if I am in Switzerland and call the UK I am charged for the call. If I am in France and call the UK it will be free as it is considered “unlimited calls within the EU and UK”.

The problem with that, not only does it defy logic, but the wording is incorrect. “Within”, in this context, means that a phone plan allows you to make an unlimited number of phone calls to and from any phone number located within the countries of the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) without incurring additional charges.

Geographical Coverage: The phrase covers all countries that are members of the European Union, as well as the United Kingdom.
No Extra Charges: You can make as many calls as you want to any number in these regions without worrying about extra costs or limits.
Applies to Calls Made From and To.

Furthermore, the French version of the phrases are “Illimité à l’intérieure de la Suisse and ” Illimité à l’intérieur du UE/UK" Here it is explicit that it is INSIDE (intérieure) Switzerland and EU/UK. The english version says WITHIN which has a different meaning in this context as the EU&UK are made up of several countries.

I am trying to reach out to Swisscom to ask them to be more explicit in their English as they are with the French one to state “Unlimited Calls INSIDE the EU/UK. Calls from Switzerland to the EU/UK are subject to charges”.

Swisscom were kind enough to wave the charges.

I would have also expected the same. Data is unlimited across EU/UK, calls should be too.

bitracer This is nothing new and for the latest subscription plans it is clearly stated, that for BLue Mobile M and S calls from CH to UK/EU are not included. For Blue Mobile L it is included.

Thanks! But when in the UK/EU all calls to Switzerland, UK/EU are included at no extra charge. But calls to the UK/EU from Switzerland (home country) are charged per your screenshot. That doesn’t make sense to me…it’s backwards…but that’s how it is. Just wanted to let people know…

@Prijoppo64 I know, but it is as it is, I as natural scientist, can tell you that a lot of things aren’t logic when it comes to business and economy. Of course for you and and for me it does not make sense, but for the sales department of Swisscom it does. If you call more often from CH -> EU/UK probably it is better to switch do Blue Mobile L where it is included?
