Nice to be the first poster here.
Well, I’m pretty certain that most won’t be able to help but I’ll try it anyway.
I’ve got the infinity connection with a Motoroal 3397GP router.
At my previous address I used to get just over the listed bandwidth (i.e. 20/1 Mbps Down/Up).
since moving, I noticed that the max that could be offered in the brand new apartment block was 15/1 instead of 20/1. So far so good.
Here’s the weird stuff. My connection has two operating modes:
1) I get 15Mbps down load but my upload is ridiculously low (less 100Kps!!!)
2) I get my normal upload speed of about 1Mbps but my download is then halved.
The funny thing is there’s absolutely no distinguishing factor as to why this occurs.
Test Results
So far I have tried the following:
- Using a different wall socket
- Using a different ADSL filter
- Disconnecting all other phones from everywhere
- Using different RJ-45 Ethernet cables
- Running the speedtest from the wireless interface
Not one of those changes a thing.And to the grand part:I called Swisscom’s tech support and they at first disbelieved me. (Actually, looking into the router’s DSL info the max speeds are listed as 16/2Mbps which would look ideal if only it were true).Second time round, they still disbelieved me, but this time they sent a technician over. All he did was change the wall socket but the underlying problem remains.Third time round, the swisscom agent said “Write to Swisscom using normal post and declare that you have problem with your internet”.I’m at my wit’s end here and seriously thinking of changing providers.Would any of you guys have any ideas what other things could be the problem? (Besides the elementary firewall, torrent and associated c**p that I have already checked)
