Hello, After a 50m house change the service i've requested (15mb/1,5mb) just dropped to a 10mb/1mb one. I've contacted Swisscom and they say that I should get a technician to check and if the problem is in my house it's me that obviously have to support (aka pay). At first I hadn't got a connection at all because someone painted the house with such an amount of ink that it was almost impossible to reach the line. The matter is, with the same service and the same configuration I've had speed always at the point and sometimes higher and here it lowered this much? I've tried the connection on both wall sockets and with cable and the speed is always the same which make me think it must be outside my concernment/responsability. Can be old cables, bad building connection or something to do with server. Do you know how much those technicians ask for this kind of service even if just approximatively? I'm considering lowering the speed as if it is something with the lane and I can get 10mb now I will certainly get them after, but when I first had a 10mb package (-26yo) I find that now I can only get 8mb, and that's too low. Could be anything starting with your house cables. Try again to contact the hotline under 0800 0800 0800 They can remotely measure the line

Thanks for the answer but it has already been done and I've got asked to run also the bluewin speedtest... same result. In the end they always ended up talking about getting the technician here, thought I'm not into paying some 250chf for someone to look at my router and modem as I'm able to do it myself... also if it worked before just like this, why can't it work now if I just moved less 50m... the connection is stable which make me think somehow the problem has to be somewhere else between my house, their "street box", server... I don't know anymore =/.

^^ \- 1 laptop with windows 7 + 1 desktop with Windows 8 \-Piccolo from swisscom (motorola 7640-47-20sc) + asus rtn56u. Both are next to the wall socket even thought cables are around 1,5m/3m (but before I was using those that come with swisscom and it was fine). \-Only problem is the low internet speed no more issues and not noticeable changes/peaks/lag on ping or even on data upload/download. I'm using mostly wireless in a bandwidth that hasn't got many apparels so that the "air is clean", besides I mostly use 5ghz instead of the typical 2,4ghz and I've tried and made measures with cable directly with swisscom piccolo router. I'm at the same floor as I was before, I'm connected to the main socket right next to the Hall (have another one on the room which I made tests too). Checked cables on both. This building is like 50 meters away from the one I was before and the same distance to the "main street". hmmm pretty slow. what kind of wall socket do you have? Could really be that a technician should come and check that. When I was on copper (fiber now), I had a "digital plug" from Swisscom. A technician installed it and the signal quality was much better.

You need to have your connection checked first.

hmm, I see, the RJ45 is the one that I've always used before I've arrived to Switzerland. Not sure if will change anything but I might ask them about it but certainly I will have to pay the technician as it is inside this home that i'm renting -\_- or do it myself. That's is why they said not to use any filter, maybe they think I have the RJ45 socket unless the small adapter isn't considered a filter... what a mess. thanks anyway for your patience and for helping me out.

Don't do it yourself. That could give a better line quality. Price: no idea. you can also ask an electrician to do that.did you already checked under [www.swisscom.ch/checker](http://www.swisscom.ch/checker) which are the max connection speed? Filter: you should use the filter which comes with the router. Use your phone number if possible to check.

I did that already ^^ with the address, no phone number... talked to one of my neighboors and he has 40mb download, which I saw it is the limit for my current location.

nope, no phone at all, the results might not be exactly the same but since I use full address it has to be around the value... but again, if my neighbor in this same building has 40mb I believe I should get 15mb at least 😃

Then let the plug be changed to the so called broadband plug.
It's a rj 45 jack but not ethernet

that's why I have almost no doubts the problem is not in my house but somewhere in the middle between my house and ISP

But just ask for a technician. And re use the filter!

Will have the technician here tomorrow to measure and check what might be wrong...

Hope everything goes smoothly or I will be really angry as there has been lot's of problems with this move due to the person that was here before me not telling anything about leaving this house.

In the end it was me that had to give info and worry about when it shouldn't be my problem... misinformation about the service... this story is really getting into my nerves.

Hope the technician will be professional and if it's nothing inside my house I hope that I get refunded as I couldn't achieve the speed and been telling this for a long time.

Not sure if he will do that. And, after all I bet i'm capable of doing it myself and I believe the problem has nothing to do with the plug.

I might be wrong of course.

I really hope he won't come with an excuse to bill me as if it was my own fault or something to do with this house. I don't consider myself an expert but I'm not a random normal user too.

But the broadband plug helped my install to get better connection value witch resoluted in higher transfer rates

OK, so the engineer has been around already, he changed router and cable and made a lot of tests before and after, changed some stuff that could be part of the problem.

Then they tried to reach the "box" on the street and change line and "directions" and seems that the real problem is a bad cable that will have to be replaced.

Right now I'm with 1,5mb upload but can't reach more than 10mb download. But at least now they know that it wasn't me or my set up.

Since the technician visit that I feel more lag, specially on skype calls and when playing... also the download seems to be more affected from external sources. hope this get repaired soon -_-

So after everything looks like either cablex or swisscom couldn't get the job done, got to wait a bit more so that someone finds what's wrong this time. I'm almost freaking out as this is getting in my nerves. If there was another service around I would probably change.

The bad news is that after the first technician has been around I feel more drops. I have less stability and speed values sometimes are around 6mb! I wonder what might be.

Finally fixed... So in the end there was something else failing and appears it was the wall socket distance due to the paint as I believe I've told before... that little space was enough to make more noise and low the download speed...

at least it's up and working now and I've found that the limit is around 30mb here so I won't be changing to 40mb as 15mb stable is pretty ok for some gameplay and conversation.
