It's sad how Swisscom treats their loyal customers (those beyond the minimum subscription term)… Here is my experience, and I guess I'm not the only one.
Fiber was (finally, after some months of delays…) installed in my building. Some months ago I received an email to get a 50 CHF gift ("Sie erhalten 50.– Startgeschenk und noch mehr."), and some weeks later I got by post a personalized offer (it included my name!) to change from Internet M to Internet L for 54.90 CHF/month during the first year. The link in the email did not work, showing an error when trying to open the link because fiber was still not installed in my building, and the promotion from the regular mail was also not true since after login with my account, the price was 69.90 CHF/month instead of 54.90 CHF.
I called support a few times, and they couldn't help to pre-order the Internet L with that offer, and I did not want to waste more time and effort on that…
After fiber was installed in the building, I also called support a few more times to get an early appointment to install the OTO socket in my apartment. Today, finally, after two weeks trying I managed to arrange an appointment (btw, only after having to call myself to 4 different numbers: Swisscom -> Multinet -> Different Multinet number -> Technician).
Anyways, I was happy to get the fiber and the 10Gbps connection. I even bought a 10G switch already two months ago to make the most of it with my NAS and PC. Today, I learned that I will not get an Internet-Box 5 Pro with my change in the Internet because "the Internet-Box 3 is good enough to use with the 10G fiber".
Well… the IB-3 does not have a 10G ethernet port, it only has a 2.5G one, so it's not possible to use the 10Gb connection, not even close. It also does not have WiFi 7, so you are literally throwing away half of the bandwidth you are paying for.
The solution from support was to give me a 30 CHF discount in my next bill. And I can buy on my own the Internet-Box 5 Pro.
In summary, if today I change from any other ISP to Swisscom I would get:
- Internet L for 59.90CHF/month during 12 months (then 89.90 CHF/month)
- Free Internet-Box 5 Pro
But because I'm a loyal customer (paying an overpriced copper Internet connection getting 550 Mbps down and 100 Mbps) now I get:
- Internet L for 69.90 CHF/month for 12 months (then 89.90 CHF/month)
- 30 CHF coupon in my next bill
- Internet-Box 5 Pro for 149 CHF
So my question to Swisscom, do you really think I will continue with you after this? The answer is a clear and loud NO WAY!
If you are making me pay for a router that can take advantage of the connection I'm already paying, I will better build my own router (or get the new Cloud Gateway Fiber from Ubiquity) for just a bit more than the IB-5, and then get an even better connection from Init7 for less money (64.75/month without any change after 12 months).
