Hi Everyone,
Pretty new to the community, but appreciate the helpful conversations on various VLAN-related subjects that took place over the last couple years.
I am somewhat new to networking but would like to start implementing VLANs in my home network, mainly to learn and tinker with a new setup. From various posts I understand that this is not supported out of the box with the IB3 all-in-one router that Swisscom provides. I understand that some possibilities exist to add a bridge, or rather install a second router behind the IB3 in my homenetwork or completely replace the Swisscom IB3 with your own router. With the ultimate goal being a solid VLAN setup, what setup should one strive for? Could a UniFi Dream Machine Pro for instance replace the router all-together or act as a bridge? Has anyone gone through the experience of setting this up?
Apologies if this post and questions are too high-level and vage, at this stage I am really just on a fact finding mission and want to initially better understand the hardware requirements and options available… As well as generally get an update on discussions related to VLANs that have happened over the past couple years. Possibly Swisscom has been working on providing a new new solution to customers looking to implement VLANs at home recently?
If easier, feel free to answer in German, it just wanted to put it out there in English for the broader community 🙂
Any insights would be highly appreciated.
Take care,
Zestudi
