Why are data package so expensive ?

I do not understand why data package, outside Switzerland, are so expensive. I checked and tested succesfully others eSIM provider that gives unlimted 5 days internet (5G) for 20 $ only!... so for long time client, like I'm be, Swisscom could do an effort.

If you can justify the cost, check out the blue Mobile L. The data roaming is included for EU/UK plus you get roaming packages for the rest of the world (either 1GB or 100MB per month depending on the location). There are other perks also, like unlimited calling to EU/UK/US/Canada, multisim on up to 5 devices, etc.

@Niobackio21 As we are clients like you, we are not able to give here a proper answer. We have no insights to the pricing policy of Swisscom and I don't think that Swisscom will answer this here.

It's not a mystery. Roaming has been historically expensive. It changed a bit when EU forced with a political dictate the roaming within EU to be included.

The travel oriented roaming providers have deals with local providers that allow them to offer packages at more convenient prices. There is nothing wrong with using those providers if they match your use case better.

Check out Airalo for example:

They show you for each country you select through which provider they deliver the service. Often it's smaller, not mainstream providers. There is always a question of the quality of the service.

Sure, I'm not implying that it's an undemocratic decision. Still it's not something that providers decided of their own will. It was a political decision that providers were forced to follow. Ultimately it benefits the consumers that don't have to deal with expensive roaming charges when moving within the EU.

Roaming in European Union and Western Europe is included with our best seller blue Mobile M. As mentioned by @bitracer the blue Mobile L plan also includes up to 1 GB data when outside of Europe.

Please note that roaming rates are negotiated individually with foreign providers. In the last decade, we significantly reduced our roaming tariffs and launched our mobile subscriptions with unlimited calls/SMS and 40 GB of data per month for EU and Western Europe. This allowed to ease the mind of the vast majority of our clients when abroad and continue to offer competitive prices.

However, we are constantly improving our roaming services and continue to reduce our prices when possible.

I do not found my correct answer here... because you have to pay a big package (what is proposed) for the entire year, and only have profit on a couple of weeks (for hollidays) 😞

Also I have incuded data (3GB) but it is 'de la poudre aux yeux'... goon in less than 5 days. Because with chidrens, you know, the data are going away quickly.

Not a big deal also, I take others provider, its Swisscom that loos some customers and also money.

Will re-answer this directly in Swisscom shop, before changing my phone, and may be provider for the entire familly.

With blue Mobile L that includes multisim option, you can equip the whole family with generous data package including roaming.

Otherwise you'll be better off with just getting a local SIM with unlimited data package.
