Wireless Connection to the Internet is really slow.

Hey all,

I've been having this issue with my wireless connection at my place for the past month or so.

Im using the latest Swisscom router/modem hardware with the latest firmware (since it updates on its own).

There are 3 scenarios here,

- I have 2 deskstops, wired, all have good connection, my 1gbit connection works fine locally and to the internet. I get between 90-95MB/s using multiple speed test sites, including Swisscom's.

- I have 2 laptops that connect wirelessly, transfering data in my local nework is really good, i can go up to 60MB/s speed locally when i transfer large files from my server to my laptop and vice-versa.

- Using the same 2 laptops to watch a simple Youtube video is not possible, it buffers when i watch 240p videos 😕 it doesnt even load 720p/1080p videos. Sites load slow, images on websites load slow, even browsing sites like imgur.com is really slow and takes a very long time to load images or GIF's.

I did multiple speed tests using my laptops and other wireless devices like phones and tablets and i cant get above 120KB/s which is a joke really..

Whats confusing me is file transfers over wireless locally is really good and at top speed, but browsing anything online is just a joke...

Anyone had this same issue before or have any idea how to solve this? cuz i ran out of ideas and the Swisscom router has an "advanced" feature but nothing is really advanced in there and its very minimum to test or change any settings.

I forgot to mention that i disabled the Wireless on the Swisscom router, hooked up a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk to test with and its the same issue, locally over wifi i can get 60-70MB/s easy but surfing stuff online is really slow!

It could be that another device impairs the WLAN connection. I recommand you to separate the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz networks. After that, optimize your WLAN with the My Swisscom Assistant.

Thanks for the reply.

My wifi is set to Individual already. I also tried disabling 2.4GHz and leave 5GHz and vice versa, with no luck.

I'm trying to download the My Swisscom Assistant and its painfuly slow hehehe please check the screenshot:

I also used a Wifi Analyzer app on my phone:

The NIS5G is from my Swisscom router, the Righ_on_5G is a wifi extender on the other side of the house.

The Yasino network is mine as well over 5GHz using a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk.

The channels are fine like you can see and not overlapping with other wireless network from my neighbour.

Again, Local transfer over wireless is at full speed, the only issue is when surfing the internet over wifi.

I will report back once i give My Swisscom Assistant a try.

I have the same problem, I often can't even open a google page!!

The only answer i ever get from Swisscom is "use my swisscom assistant to check the channels" and that it's not their fault.... it's never their fault

their service is a joke, and they provide incredibly bad hardware to their customers for a very high price (don't even get me started on swisscom tv 2.0)

Are you only using the Swisscom router or did you test with other wireless routers/Access Points?

only the Swisscom router, but had to add a wifi repeater a few meters away because of the poor signal strength (i have the newer white and black internet box plus)

Just to make sure: can you install on your mobile device the Swisscom Internet Box App and measure the wireless transfer rate with that app?

So the connection from my computer to the router it is fine.

There was a firmware updated about 1 month ago.Maybe this is causing the issues?

I have a similar issue for past few weeks and tried the same as everyone else..

I suggest disabling IPv6. in your internet box setup.. restart all HW (including laptop/ mobiles), see if that improves any of your wifi latency... seems to have done the trick for me (at least in terms of loading up web on mobile devices... still have a weird download/Upload on WLAN)
