Is there available a final answer to what is a confusing array of version types and handset nomenclature for what should be a simple answer to a simple question;

I am bearing with a first generation Samsung Galaxy S

Model: GT-I9000 Firmware version: 2.1-update 1 Baseband version: I9000XXJF3

Kernel version: 2.6.29 [umts_scm@BUILD05](mailto:umts_scm@BUILD05) #2 Build number: ECLAIR

Swisscom's site does not let one easily into the firmware treasures and when you casually walk up to a counter in a Swisscom Shop they won't let you connect and get a download then and there for corporate IT security reaons!! OK fair enough

What is our alternative since this solution would appear something like finding the ARC?

I just went to a swisscom shop and asked for an update onto the newest android version. 2.2 was installed!

So:

When does Gingerbread come? Is it so hard to put a different Entry movie and so on into the version? I can't understand it! What is the issue?
