  • No. Swisscom simply took the user numbers and put them in relation to the license costs for NAS integration. That’s why NAS was kicked out. Pure business calculation, “without regard to losses” or collateral damage, as they also say. However, these were probably included in the analysis and were considered insufficiently relevant.

Another interpretation: Swisscom will increasingly rely on 5G (and successor technologies) in the future and therefore assumes that the router as a central access point will soon be replaced by decentralized Internet access from every device. So, with the foresight, they are already gently preparing us for this step 😉…

  • I have used the IB’s ‘Mini-NAS’ function for Time Machine backups (3 MacBooks) for years.
    Always worked fine.

Some time ago Swisscom informed me by email that this NAS function would be discontinued and made the ‘great’ offer to use myCloud. However, to date I have not seen a solution that does Time Machine backup directly to MyCloud. But maybe I missed something.

Furthermore, our important user data is automatically stored on cloud storage.
It’s not MyCloud, I’ve been away since February.

I have always seen Swisscom as a premium provider, i.e. Swisscom offered more functionality in various areas than its competitors.
Swisscom is still a premium provider, but now only in terms of subscription costs.

The decision has probably been made and customer feedback will not change it.
Oh, that reminds me: who does Swisscom generate its revenue from?

It’s not an ugly compromise of a NAS, but pure, simple network storage that is sufficient for >80% of use cases and customers.

The elimination of this feature does not speed up router development at all, because the hardware and software for this feature are standard components/standard modules.

  • Swisscom’s bait-and-switch tactics are bothering me more and more. At first, MyCloud is offered to customers for free, and if you have a few giga of data in the cloud, it suddenly costs money.

I bought the new router two years ago, Internet-Box 3, because of the NAS solution, and now this should also be remedied with the paid cloud alternative. That’s exactly what I don’t want with the important data, I just like local more.

The performance is getting worse and worse, cloud is not an alternative because the internet is too slow, 18 mega down, between 2 to 4 mega upload. But pay 100 mega download. Fiber optics are not worth it in the countryside, although Swisscom’s fiber optic cable is in the street, our house is not connected because of the open WEKO process. Cell phone reception is so bad that a 5G booster cannot be used.

I am very disappointed with Swisscom’s business conduct. The support is generally very good and the employees are courteous, but the strategy is very customer-unfriendly.

  • I agree exactly with her.

The first sentence in the email makes no sense at all in this context, the data is also digital on the local NAS 😉

Secondly, due to security concerns, there are many reasons to continue storing data locally in the future.

Swisscom makes it far too easy for itself and we customers see through Swisscom’s plan to push their cloud, PS for 9.90 per month 🤪

  • the “new” My Cloud, is that working now or still not?

I can’t understand the “new advertising” for My Cloud.

I expected that with a new version, as a “backup”, I would be able to upload entire folders and possibly also sub-folders, and not just individual photos / individual documents. Preferably unsupervised, for example at night

Back then I was put off until “later”? so now?

Is that possible now? Or am I on the fence?
