Flatmate moves out, can he take his TV box with him

  • I have had a flatmate for about 10 months. I bought a second TV box for this flatmate and have been paying the CHF 10 per month for the additional TV box ever since. Now my flatmate has found his own flat and will also have Swisscom as his provider for Internet and TV. Can he now take the TV Box he was using with me? The TV Box is in my name, as I had to apply for the contract amendment for the additional TV Box etc.

Can I still take the TV Box with me and use it in another flat? I don’t need a second TV Box.

If it is possible, do I have to notify Swisscom?

No, it won’t work like that, because the multi-room option for the Swisscom TV box only works across two different internet connections if both internet contracts are with the same contract partner.

You can give him the Swisscom TV Box, because it is customer property, but he will then need his own TV subscription on his Internet contract and you can then cancel the Multiroom option (which is only intended for the same household or for your own additional holiday flat) on your own contract.

Werner Thanks for the input and sorry, I forgot to clarify that. The flatmate will sign his own contract with Swisscom and I will cancel the Multiroom option. My only concern is that the TV box can still be used, as it is my property and I no longer need it. I would therefore give the TV box to my flatmate so that he doesn’t have to buy a new TV box for his Swisscom subscription with TV and Internet.

Christian_A Then it works perfectly. You simply have to cancel the multi-room option and then the TV box from your flatmate will be automatically cancelled as soon as you use your own TV box once (you may receive a message that you have to confirm on your own TV box, Swisscom does not know which of the 2 TV boxes you no longer want to use).

As soon as the flatmate’s TV box is deregistered, it is “free” and can be registered again on any connection with a new contract
