Apple TV 4K vs Swisscom TV Box neue switches IGMP v3

Hello together

I am planning to upgrade my home cabling to 2.5G, do I still need to make sure that the new switches can IGMP v3 or can I neglect that. I only have 2 Apple TV 4K boxes with Blue TV app, instead of Swisscom TV boxes?

Many thanks

    Hello @Beschtia

Apple does not need the IGMP v3 protocol at the moment. You never know if that will change. Or if you use another TV provider that needs the protocol.

If you are already upgrading your network with new switches. Then I would make sure that the new switches can use the protocol. And that the whole thing is future-proof.

Beschtia The Swisscom TV boxes use multicast for live TV. The Apple TV boxes do not. This is simple “Internet” traffic. You don’t need anything special for that. I don’t currently know of any 2.5 GBit/s switches that are managed, i.e. settings can be made.

But this switch seems to be new: https://www.dlink.com/de/de/products/dms-105-5-port-2_5g-multi-gigabit-desktop-switch

It says: “And the IGMP snooping feature reduces unwanted multicast traffic so you can enjoy seamless video streaming and IPTV.”

So that would be ideal. Here is another link to Brack.ch
