10G home setup?

  • Hi,

I will soon receive fiber at home and I was wondering how other Swisscom users are taking the most out of the 10G line.

If I’m not wrong, the Internet Box 4 only has 1 x SPF+ 10G port and 1 × 10G RJ45, but the SPF+ is already used to connect to the OTO, so without any additional switches, only one wired device can consume the full 10G speed. The other RJ45 are only 1G.

Ideally, I would like to use the full 10G from both a Synology NAS and a desktop PC (not at the same time, of course). I could still be happy with 10G for the NAS and 2.5G for the PC (if only the Internet Box had 4 × 2.5g instead 4 × 1G, or 2 x SFP+).

So my question: Has any of you found a good 10G RJ45 switch (with at least 2 × 10G and a few 2.5G)? Are any of you also using a different router than the Internet Box ¾? (Is that even allowed by Swisscom?) If that is possible, I found some nice devices with 2 x SPF+ and 4 × 2.5G running OPNsense.

Or perhaps you have another cool setup that I didn’t even think about. Please share it here.

If you don’t mind Chinese equipment, Hasivo has some very decently priced 10G and 2.5G switches, with or without PoE.

    This is their AliExpress store:

Patrick at STH has shown different models over the past years, and I ended up buying a model S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE, all copper with RJ45 and no SFP, which is currently listed for CHF 93.99 on AliExpress:

This is a smart switch with a basic web UI and quite some flexibility in configuration of VLAN, port mirroring and the likes.

You might find Patrick at STH a good resource to research all this:

Hi Luca, thanks for the information and the links! That Hasivo with 2×10Gb is exactly what I need.
