Email synchronization error

  • Good day,

    Since switching to the new email at Swisscom in September 2024, I have been constantly receiving error messages regarding synchronization on my Android email clients. I have three email accounts at bluewin.ch. I access this from my two Android devices via Fair E-Mail using the IMAP protocol. Since the change, I now regularly receive the message “Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded” (maximum is 10). Accounts with gmx, Gmail etc. do not show the problem. Swisscom only wants to give me paid support.

    Who knows about it? Who has the same problem? Are there solutions to this?

      With the help of the app developer I was able to solve the problem. I unknowingly had many folders that were triggering push messages and thus establishing too many connections to the server. After cleaning the settings the problem is solved.

    As a test, try a different mail app on the Android, that’s absolutely no problem with IMAP.

    Either the pre-installed mail app or the Gmail app or:

    I’ve been using the Bluemail app on my Androids for >5 years and have never had any synchronization problems.

    Alternatively, K-9 Mail (now belongs to the Mozilla group and is said to be the “Thunderbird” for Android)

    I would try the following:

    • Delete the Bluewin email accounts in the settings on the smartphone
    • Clear the mail app cache in the settings
    • Reset up the Bluewin mail accounts (MAPI configuration)

    thanks for the tips. I’ve only had problems since Swisscom made the switch 12 days ago. I know K9-Mail and haven’t noticed any problems there yet (on my wife’s cell phone). However, I find Fair Email to be far better than K9 Mail (at least for my use). I’ll wait for a response from the app developer and then take a look.

    The error actually means that your devices have too many simultaneous connections open to the Swisscom servers. Could it be that your mail app doesn’t close the connection after the sync or that the sync interval is too short?
