I assume that albums are a purely local, proprietary matter of the app (or operating systems). An album is just a list of pictures. The cloud systems probably cannot handle this.
This is in contrast to a folder (directory) in the file system. A folder and therefore its contents can be synchronized with a cloud.
Lesen, was auf dem Bildschirm steht.
Yes on iOS.
@MaRossi1972 also has an iPhone…
The setting is available here under the toggle for activating sync

Good morning everyone
So iOS 18 is still in BETA and we will check our app for compatibility in advance, so it may well be that we still have to adapt something for iOS 18.
The way it works for iOS 17 is that it’s not a sync - sync always goes in both directions.
If you add a new image to an album in the native Photos app, it will also be added to this album with myCloud. The reverse case doesn’t work.
You can’t mark individual albums either, you can only select all or none.
Greetings Dave
How did you get iOS 18, which is currently only available for software developers, not yet for “developer beta” testers?
In any case, the iOS 18 Beta/2 version will still have many errors and many new functions are still missing.
Errors must also be reported directly to Apple.
Addendum: I had to manually switch from beta iOS 17 to beta iOS 18 on the iPhone 14PRo, I’m installing.
Installationen, Netzwerk, Internet, Computertechnik, OS Windows, Apple und Linux.
@WalterB, definitely!
Without getting into the OT here, I have to say that the new Photos app has persuaded me to sync my photos primarily with Apple and forego Google.
The battery consumption under iOS 18 (both betas) is also significantly better than under iOS 17 public release.
Addendum: iOS also has developer mode. 😉
If you activate this using XCode, the releases can officially be received without a paid developer account (iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and iPhone).
