It can’t be the TV and must be the box.

I’m just wondering why Swisscom doesn’t just automatically send the latest box instead of forcing an update on the old boxes that these old TV boxes might not even be designed for?

1. For ecological reasons (sustainability). This is clear even to me as a non-Green.

2. For me, the new software runs SIGNIFICANTLY better on the Box 21 than on the Box 5, even though I’ve had beta versions there for many weeks. So it’s individual.

Why aren’t they created? The claim is baseless! I don’t think any provider/manufacturer takes the risk of releasing an update that only causes problems because the hardware isn’t designed for it without having tested it extensively. Especially since updates sometimes cost a lot of money! If the hardware cooperates, there is no reason not to upgrade the box so that all other customers can also benefit from new functions without being forced to buy a new box. Something like this is also very sustainable, which is currently very trendy anyway. Most of the time there is bullying because the providers or manufacturers no longer provide any updates and the devices are then EoL (End of Life)! We always see people here in the forum who are almost annoyed when an update comes out. The bottom line is that it’s always the same. You can never please everyone… but I personally think it’s great that many TV boxes get an upgrade to a new Android version.

@Loxiran Everything worked perfectly when switching over on my old Swisscom TV 21 and it’s already a few years old, it even ran better than the TV Box 5. Why should Swisscom equip everyone with new boxes? You can buy the box with the option to download apps. If you don’t want that, you can stick with the old one, that’s how it was until now. You could also have decided to leave it as it is and not retrofit the older boxes. Then nothing changes at all for owners of the older box. Now you do that and it’s not right either.

And, how many times in my life have I heard: it can’t be because of X, it has to be because of Y, then it was exactly the other way around…

@“x”#119089yes, I share the argument. I specifically wrote “maybe” and I never claimed that the box wasn’t designed for the update. I hope that the problems can be solved in this forum.

I hope that everything will continue to work as before when the update comes out.

@roman70

yes, it’s reassuring to hear that the update is working for you. As mentioned, I haven’t received an update yet and I’m hoping that it will work great for me too.

@“x”#872562I’m glad it works for you and I hope it will work for me too. The sources of error can be diverse. I’ll see it.

@Loxiran Don’t worry so much 😀, as testers we have had the version on the box for a long time and we also paid attention to how the transition went, from what I saw, it wasn’t a major one Problem, neither for me nor for the others. If there had been a major problem, it would have been sorted out in the meantime.

Hello r00T

Thank you for your response to my comment.

I learned something new again and it was very reassuring that it doesn’t necessarily have to be the Samsung TV.

So overnight the TV box, the router and the Samsung TV were completely switched off and unplugged. This morning I reconnected everything and let the TV run for about 15 minutes. No interruption in the picture. Fingers crossed that it stays that way!

It was precisely in the replay that it stalled, as well as when watching Netflix or normal TV. The station is running, the picture goes black (approx. 4 seconds), the station is running again. The whole thing happened every 3 minutes.

The TV box is connected to the router via a network cable. All cables are intact and the problem only occurred after upgrading the TV box.

Well, it remains exciting. The problem may have resolved itself overnight after 2 days 🙂

Important: Even if you connect your Google account, we do not send any data to Google.

Even more important: Does Swisscom collect data from my Google account or the new apps that I then use?

Hello Swisscom, since the new update my TV keeps going black every 5 seconds and that’s really annoying. I tested the TV on the Playstation 5 and it doesn’t do it there, so it must be due to the update, what can I do?

Thanks in advance
