Tipps und Tricks für die TV-Box 5

Tips and tricks for the TV-Box 5

The TV-Box 5 has some new features and settings. We’ll explain how to connect an external sound system, how to connect the TV-Box to the power supply even more easily and how to use your own remote control.

Connect external sound system

The TV-Box 5 has only one HDMI output and no separate output for the sound. If you wish to connect an additional device (home cinema, sound system etc.) without an HDMI connector, use an HDMI audio extractor (e.g. Lindy HDMI 4K60 audio extractor or Delock HDMI audio extractor 4K 60 Hz compact).

You can also use this method to listen to the radio or music when the TV is turned off.

For information about connecting your Bluetooth headphones to the TV-Box 5 or switching from stereo to surround sound, visit the help page.

Powering the TV-Box 5 without a mains adapter

The TV-Box 5 has a USB-C port. You can use it to power the box directly via the TV or other device, so you don’t need a separate mains adapter.

Please note:

  • For the TV-Box to run reliably, the USB port on the TV set must provide at least 1 ampere (5 watts).
  • It will take longer for the TV-Box to start up. It is completely disconnected from the power supply in TV standby and is only supplied with power again when the TV is switched on.
  • Updates cannot happen unless the TV-Box is running.

If you wish to avoid waiting, it is better to use the Swisscom mains adapter supplied.

Using an infrared remote control

To use an infrared remote control with the TV-Box 5 instead of the remote control supplied, you will need a Y cable and a USB IR dongle kit. If you use an activity-based universal remote control, you also need to deactivate the “HDMI CEC” settings on the TV-Box 5.

Set-up codes:

  • On most one-for-all remote controls, you use the code 2401.
  • The same codes are valid for the TV-Box 5 as for Swisscom’s other TV-Boxes (TV-Box (UHD), Swisscom Box, Swisscom Box 21).
  • The code overview gives the codes for all programmable remote controls.

Did you set up your previous TV-Box with your own remote control? If so, your universal remote will automatically work correctly with the TV-Box 5.

Good article… it might be an advantage to link the adapters so that you might know the specifications…

Personally, I would prefer the Lindy adapter now… 😉

..or the adapter from the apple crate (…don’t laugh, works great with the TV 5 box):

Hello

I noticed that the Picture in Picture (PiP / Bild in Bild) no longer appears when selecting the channel with the up arrow. Is this no longer available or can it be activated?

    Since I’ve been using the TV Box 5, I’ve had sound problems. Approximately every 5 to 15 minutes a “jump” occurs exclusively in the sound, which was never the case with the previous box. Is this phenomenon known and what can I do about it?

    @Frevauyeub21 Good evening

    In fact, the MyCanal application is pre-installed on the box. If it is not located under “Home” -> “Apps” -> on the far right under “Recommended Apps”, then you must completely turn off the power to the box for a few minutes, then turn it back on and check again.

    Interesting observation, I connected the Bluetooth headphones to the TV-Box/5 and at times there was always a “rattling” or interruptions. I have now activated “Surround” and so far this “rattling” and the interruptions have disappeared.

    The only disadvantage is that you can no longer regulate the sound via the remote control, so you can only use the headphones.

    The setting has been working for several days now without any problems.

    The TV-Box 5 with USB-C-Anschluss is a joke! I have no idea who came up with that. The TV-Box runs stable, that’s not a problem, but it takes forever until the TV-Box starts. The box always gets the latest data and updates it again and again. The function is useless. But it would be great if the box were programmed differently.

    @Degriontie43

    Where is the problem if you have the TV-Box/5 connected via the USB charger always to the power supply?

    If you always switch off the TV-Box/5 completely, it will take a long time until all the data is on it again.

    Good tip, thank you! Of course, my Samsung One Connect Box switches off completely. I’m wondering if I can activate the USB (1 amp (5 watt)) when the box is turned off. I need to check the settings.
