rent apple tv movies

  • If Swisscom has blocked films rented via the Apple TV app (latest TV-Box), they cannot be played (there is a network error). Films and series in the AppleTV+ subscription work.

The film is played on the Apple TV device.

Both devices are connected directly to the router with a cable.

      Hello everyone

So I looked at it in detail and realized that it could really be the case that the AppleTV+ app doesn’t always play content 100% of the time.
But this has nothing to do with Swisscom, but is due to the AppleTV+ app itself.

I could also see the following error in the app itself with the movie Gravity (purchased):
      IMG_8010.jpg

Then I just tried to start the film umpteen times and lo and behold it suddenly worked.
I can’t tell you why the AppleTV+ app works here.
But there is certainly no network error.
Because I can easily play the same film on the Macbook on the same Anschluss.

      Hope this helps a bit?

What exactly do you mean by that?

Are you renting a film in the blueTV app on your Apple TV but can’t watch it?

But would it work on the PC?

I once knew that a film cannot be purchased or rented on Android. I don’t know whether this is (still) the case with OTT apps.

    You’re misunderstanding @Fillithau54

It’s about Apple TV+ and not blue TV

    @Fillithau54

I’ve tested this now. Of the 18 films I purchased, one film won’t start. The rest starts perfectly. But things are also strange with the series. Except for “The Peanuts Classics,” everything went perfectly.

In principle, I think it is impossible for Swisscom to interfere with this. The app has 4586 reviews in the Playstore and an average of 2.3 stars. The app is probably treated very poorly. I wouldn’t be annoyed any longer, I would watch the films myself via the App TV.

Apart from the fact that the Android app from Apple TV+ is not the best, it is not recommended to play content on the new TV-Box 5 that was not originally produced for the European PAL standard, because what On the TV-Box 5, unlike on the two predecessor models of Swisscom TV boxes, the automatic frame rate adjustment has not yet been implemented Frame frequency, which then results in the previously known 50P micro-judder for more sensitive eyes.

For the time being, it is better to always use the Apple TV-Box (if you have one at all) to play video streaming (also applies to Netflix, etc.) or, if available, the apps directly on the smart TV.

Well, I thought maybe they were blocking the option to rent films, because the Sky app doesn’t have a ‘section’ for renting films unless you start the app on the Swisscom box.

    Hello everyone @Fillithau54 @Stephan_76

Can you tell me the exact content that doesn’t work for you?
I would like to test this in my laboratory.
Currently, for example, Start and stream “The Peanuts Classics” episode 1 without any problems with my setup and my Apple account.
As soon as I get more titles from you that don’t work, I’ll be happy to test them.
However, Swisscom is not blocking anything here with regard to the AppleTV+ app, as this app comes directly from the Google Play Store.
With regard to Sky, the situation is different 😉 There are contracts between Swisscom and Sky which define the offer in detail.

I rented the film “Black Water - the horror lurks under the water” with the AppleTV+ app, but I couldn’t play it because there was a network error

    Hello @UrsSch

Interesting that Peanuts Classics is playing for you. It shouldn’t be the setup. This is all standard for me. My box 5 has a CAT. 6 cables connected directly to the IB 4.

Out of 18 films purchased, only one doesn’t work.

    Greg’s Diary 4 - Bad Trap!

And when it comes to series, the Peanuts Classics

Well for me it’s not the end of the world. I’ve already seen Peanuts and when one of my nieces wants to watch Greg’s diary, the ATV starts up quickly.

The problem is with rental films. E.g. Miles Ahead for CHF 4.50.

When I switched off the firewall on the Internet box, the film started for a few seconds, after which the window shown above appeared again.

I suspect it is due to the Swisscom TV box. On the desktop computer or via iOS, the rental films can be played without any problems, only the Swisscom TV Box blocks them.
