Do I still need a fixed line?

In this day and age I cannot figure why I still need to have a fixed line phone. Is this still necessary to have Swisscom Internet and TV?

@Grompogreiy61 the fixed line phone is absolutely not necessary to have Swisscom Internet and Blue TV. If you no more need fixed net subscription you can cancel it without any problem via Hotline 0800 800800 or here:

You can get away without the fixed line, but some public entities and companies don't like calling mobile numbers. It's also good to have a fixed line for emergencies and for redundancy.

@bitracer I don't think so, practically none of my colleagues and friends has still a fixed line and no one of them had problems in the last time with companies or mit public entities. Neither me, since years I only give my mobile number. I didn't use my own fixed line subscription. for months and the only thing what I got were spam calls, so that I will cancel it, too. Emergency could be a reason in case of an interrupted mobile net or internet could be reason, But the last three times there was a general internet interruption the fixed line didn't work, too 🤷‍♂️.

I've been using VoIP for the last 15 years. It's been ringing less and less, but it does ring occasionally.

What I meant with emergencies, is calling police, firefighters or ambulance. You can get away with a mobile phone in most of those circumstances, but it's good to have a fallback just in case.

@bitracer I already understood that with emergencies, as a HSE specialist 😀. But the question is what everybody is prepared to pay for the fallback. However, a fixed line for Swisscom Internet and Blue TV is not needed.

There are other VoIP providers that offer the fixed line for free, or at least without monthly payments.

I would argue that Swisscom should offer the basic fixed line included in the price of all internet subscriptions.

would be a good idea, in such a case, I would not think about cancelling the subscription. As fallback, even if you have to pay 13 Rappen for an emergency call (which are normally for free, e.g. with mobile), it would be absolutely acceptable. Perhaps Swisscom will learn from the competitor 😀.
