Definitely nonsense.
People who say things like that make me wonder if they’ve ever heard real surround sound. Maybe they heard it on a soundbar, where the whole thing is just virtual (and then it’s just junk). And today Dolby Atmos is even being used excessively on cell phones, which is then just marketing and nothing else.
No, not even Dolby Digital 5.1 is overrated, and certainly not the uncompressed subsequent formats of DTS and Dolby. Today I even want Dolby Atmos from the streamer.
Dolby Digital 5.1 has been my standard since 1999. Back then, almost every Popel DVD had 5.1. And there were also some well-mixed ones - and some bad ones too. Just like today. But that doesn’t mean it’s overrated.
If a streamer comes along these days and doesn’t even meet the standards of the last millennium, then they’re just pile-dwellers (bad comparison, they were innovative in their time).
No tired penny should be shoved down the throats of such providers.
I agree with you to some extent about 4K. The distance has to be small and the screen size has to be large for the difference to HD to be striking. But there is HDR. And then the difference is big. And that’s what a contemporary streamer has to offer too.

😀 take my ears and listen… from this listening perspective your statement is exactly the same as absolute nonsense!
Pure 5.1 sound and also 4K can massively improve the enjoyment of a film. But the quality of the film will not change. Trash remains trash even in 5.1 and 4K! Conversely, you can enjoy a lot of things on Paramount+ in 2.1 because it’s that good.
Our football team doesn’t play any differently or even better, even if everyone will be watching the World Cup in UHD!
That’s what I meant by “overrated”, nothing else.
@Vilu It is known, the problem may be fixed by tomorrow evening, see here:

Hello
In my blueSuperMax subscription I don’t get any sound via the Paramount+ app. Neither via the soundbar nor via the TV speakers. How can that be? The sound works perfectly for other content via the TV-Box.
Thank you for your help
Addendum: The sound comes from my smartphone and TV, so it must be the Swisscom Box 5!
@Swisscom: I can’t report the problem online, so please provide feedback, thank you very much.
