TV Box connection to Wi-Fi without WPS

Is it normal that the TV box cannot be connected to a Wi-Fi network that is not equipped with WPS? In the configuration of the TV Box there is no possibility of choosing a Wi-Fi and inserting the dedicated PW. Is this correct or am I just not finding where to do it.

which model of TV-Box is used?

Swisscom recommends connecting the TV-Box

1 - directly to the router with Ethernet cable

2 - via a WLAN-Box

3 - on the WLAN (pay attention to the distance from the router)

@Rabbit74 No, this option is not available in the Home menu of the Box, you connect the Box to the router via Wifi by resetting the Box. At that point, as far as I can tell, it asks if you want to connect via WiFi if the Ethernet cable is not connected.

The model is the latest: the rounded one with voice assistant. If I’m not mistaken 2.1.

I know how to connect it to the network and that ideally it should be connected with the cable but my question was not this: I want to connect it to another Wi-Fi network (created with Mikrotik and Ubiquiti which do not have the WPS option. I would like to select a another Wi-Fi network and enter the PW manually as it works with any accessory that goes to the network

Is IGMP multicast proxy enabled on the router?

"To use Swisscom blue TV also with an external router, “Enable IGMP Multicast Proxy” must be activated. This also applies to all network switches from other manufacturers. Furthermore, if possible, it is recommended to also activate IGMP Snooping."

Good morning, yes it is active for all networks: both Wi-Fi and wired.

but it is not the answer to my question, that is, if it is possible to choose Wi-Fi as it works for any accessory that can be connected to the network: choose Wi-Fi —> enter PW —> stay connected.

Then it is a specific feature that only works with the Swisscom router.

In all Swisscom commissioning examples, the SB21 is connected via cable to the router or again via cable to the Wlan box.

For the use that @Rabbit74 wants to make of it, we can conclude that the only option is the network cable.

Should simply set up the TV box with Ethernet on the external router and if it works, then disconnect the cable from the TV box, then the following screen appears (in German for me), where you can select Wlan, let’s see if it works, I have never tried this with an external router:

Support supports it…. The problem is that the monopoly is not over yet and we continue, for reasons related to security (and not marketing as in my opinion), to want to use only “certified” Swisscom devices. Which have absolutely nothing more (except configuration restrictions) compared to the other much more renowned ones 😀

It is not a question of monopoly or security, it is simply a matter of company logic aimed at containing as much as possible various problems due to possible incompatibilities or inadequate devices at the customer’s site.

Let’s not always look for unnecessary controversy.
