No more live TV with UHD box

Hello everyone

I had to connect the UHD box to the IB 3 via WLAN because of a room change. Since this was very unstable, I connected the UHD box with a cable to an ASUS mesh system ZenWiFi AX Mini (XD4) satellite. Since then, live TV has stopped working and the message “Unfortunately there is currently no TV signal available from this channel” appears. However, replay, recordings, or time-shifted television work.

Since a Swisscom Box in the living room, which is directly connected to the router, runs without any problems, a defective router can probably be ruled out.

I have reset the UHD box several times (via the menu) without success. Anyone else have an idea?

Greetings

Andrew

Seems like this isn’t available with the mesh system… At least I couldn’t find anything in the settings.

So do I have to get one that can do that? Is that even available (I’m just checking)?

Or attach an Asus router with this function to the IB3 and then run the mesh system via the Asus router, would that be possible?

Or the best thing is to pull a cable…

Asus can’t handle this. Is a known problem. Before you buy this retail junk (sorry for the strong words) it’s better to take a WLAN-Box 2 or 3 and have no problems.

With the Swisscom WiFi boxes it works - also a kind of “mesh”

Definitely the best way!

Of course, a LAN cable is always the best solution, but the fact that your Asus Mesh system cannot handle the multicast of a blue TV live stream is a clear false statement.

What you have to do to be able to operate a Swisscom TV-Box correctly on an Asus system is to go to the administration menu of your Asus router and:

- under the menu item LAN/IPTV you activate the Multicast option

- In the WLAN settings of the 5 GHz band, activate the IGMP snooping option

With these two settings set correctly for IPTV, the Swisscom TV-Box, which requires multicast capability for the live program, will also work without any problems on both the LAN and the WLAN of any Asus system.

I found the setting in the web interface (I looked on the mobile phone app beforehand) and the function is activated for both frequencies… so it’s an Asus problem?

    Hi Mogwai72,

Sounds more like a configuration problem to me 😉. Question: When you connect a device to your Asus box, which IP range do you get an IP from? 192.168.1.x? something else?

Basically, you have to make sure that the multicast packets make their way from the IB to your TV. Apparently there are settings for this in your system:

I can’t tell you exactly which profile or settings you need to use, as the official documentation is very modest.

Alternatively, you can save yourself the double NAT and operate the system in AP mode. Then it should work with IGMP snooping.

Did you also make the more important of the two settings, namely under Advanced Settings/LAN/IPTV?

It should then look like this:

    IMG_3453.jpeg

So you have to set multicast routing to “Enable” and the default IGMP version to “IGMPv3”.

Just leave everything else at the default values.

Since I don’t use the same Asus model as you, the menu may look a little different for you and if you have several ASUS devices in your set, you should also activate the multicast settings on each device within the set.

Activating multicast routing (also called IGMP proxy by other router manufacturers) together with IGMP snooping (for the WLAN) then brings together compatibility with multicast video streams and thus also for the live program from Swisscom TV.

The IP address was different, so it probably couldn’t work at all… I then switched to AP mode (because the IP ranges were too complicated for me…), but I still don’t want to. I’ve now ordered a WiFi box, let’s see how it works.
