The blue TV app is also coming to Android/Google TV

Dear Community,

The blue TV app is now also available for televisions with Android/Google TV. It can be downloaded directly to the TV from the Google Play Store.

In addition to Samsung and LG televisions, you can also use the blue TV app on a Sony, Philips, Panasonic Smart TV and on various other devices like Chromecast 4, Nvidia Shield, etc.

Click here to find out how to configure the blue TV app on your Smart TV. By the way, did you know that? With a Swisscom TV-Box, your TV experience is even better: radio, teletext, HbbTV, Perfect UHD quality and no delay in Live TV signal.

Cordialement,

NicoleH

So, after a week of use:

1): More of a “beta” version than final.

2): Impossible to choose the no. of the desired channel with the TV remote control.

3): Obligation to return each time to the TV guide to be able to change the channel instead of being able to directly type the number. desired.

4): Slowness when launching a desired channel.

5): No HBBDTV.

6): No Teletext.

To improve.

Otherwise, positive points:

1): Very useful application during a breakdown on a TNT type collective antenna.

2): Possibility of renting or buying films / series like on a box.

3): Replay and “ad skipping” work perfectly.

Hello everyone,

Following an exchange of emails with Swisscom mobile support, I also share with you the problems I encountered when I installed Blue TV on my Shield TV:

  1. It is not possible when opening the application to go to Live-TV without going through the TV Guide. If you press the back button on the Shield TV remote, the application asks if you want to close the application. We should be able to access Live-TV in a simple way;
  2. It is not possible to zap TV with the Shield TV remote control. You can display the list of channels on the left but the remote control does not allow zapping. It would absolutely be necessary to integrate the Shield TV remote control into the management of the application in order to be able to fully use it;
  3. There is a problem with some TV channels, the following message is displayed: “Unfortunately, your device only supports playing copy protected content in low quality”.
  4. There is a bit of latency in the menus compared to Swisscom TV Box

Here is the configuration I have:

*Nvidia Shield TV, model P2897, Android 11, software version 9.1.1 (33.2.0.157)

  • Blue TV, version 5.1.3.021

My questions:

  • Do you know in which délai these problems will be resolved?
*Is there a workaround for these issues while waiting for the fix?

On the positive side:

  • Very good image quality, at the same level as the Swisscom box;
  • Almost instant channel change

I can happily participate in user tests because my goal is, ultimately, to replace the Swisscom TV Box with my Shield TV for viewing Blue TV. If you have beta versions, I would like to test them.

Hello @TheAlex,

Thank you for sharing your observations. I have forwarded them to the team managing this theme and will forward the information received to you.

The main points you raise relate to using the remote control for your Shield TV. We are aware of the gaps at this level. This is a subject that we are working on, but which requires a lot of time given the large number of existing devices and remote controls. nVidia Shield and Amazon Firestick are the two models we are currently focusing on. Improvements will be rolled out as soon as possible. However, we cannot give you a deadline.

Regarding beta users, we currently use Swisscom employees. However, this could change in the future.

We’re always looking to optimize the blue TV experience across all devices and hope you’ll be happy with the upcoming improvements 😊.

Beautiful day

Good morning,

Is it possible to publish the changelog every time you release a new version of the app on Android TV?

Thank you in advance and have a nice day

Good morning,

I thank the developers for correcting the image quality problem on certain channels! I think we should now prioritize the use of the remote control, particularly that of the Shield TV to make it easier to change channels and other options.

Good morning,

After more than a year of use, I would like to know if the app. for android/Google TV has come of age.

Do you have any feedback, particularly on the speed of switching from one channel to another, on the quality of the image and on the time lag (existing or not) compared to the box?

Furthermore, I installed the app on my Sony Bravia TV, but I cannot test it because it seems that I have to choose between activating either the box or the app, but not both at the same time, is this correct?

Thank you in advance for your answers

Hello @Wukobi68,

It’s absolutely fair, you have to choose whether you want to watch on the box or on the TV. Or, if you want both to work, you have to take out a subscription for around 10 francs. It would be useful if you had 2 tvs.

But you can give it a try without any problem. You select Deactivate the box when you launch the blue tv app on the TV. And you can test. If you are not convinced, you launch the box and choose Deactivate the app.

I can tell you, however, that on an Apple box, blue tv works very well. Fast. But there is a major drawback to the app, which is that you cannot have a numeric keypad for directly choosing a channel. You must always go through the guide or scroll through the channels one by one with the up arrow.

I had heard that on an android system it was slower than on Apple. I don’t know what it is now. Try it or wait for the opinion of a user who is not on Apple like me.

But in summary, using a box is more pleasant in my opinion.

Cordialement, Prelude

Thank you for all this prelude information!

I’ll try it sometime. Maybe I could use the numeric keypad on my TV remote control for the channels… to see.

Good evening!
