UDMpro with new firmware 3.0.19 in conjunction with blue-tv

  • Hello everyone,

I have been running my network with a UDMpro in the DMZ of IB3 for a long time. To ensure that blue TV also works smoothly in live operation, I route the TV signal directly from the IB3 through my Unifi network using a separate vlan and appropriate static port settings.

Now Unifi has upgraded the UDMpro software from version 1 to version 3 within 3 months and is now on par with UDM SE in terms of software. The whole thing with the vlan still works now. But there is a new item in the network environment settings called “IGMP proxy”. The info text underneath reads “required by certain service providers to enable IPTV on your local networks through IGMP proxying”.

Has anyone who runs a UDMpro (or UDM SE) with the new 3 firmware and blue TV already tried this? It would be desirable if static port management could be replaced because the network could now handle it “inherently”.

I know I could tinker with it myself. But I don’t want to rush ahead and fall on my face when experience has already been made. 😉

Of course I have no idea about the specific properties of a UDM network, but if Unifi has now solved the multicast issue in a way that works in cascaded router networks from other manufacturers, then that’s no big deal.

Simply switch on the multicast capability in the cascaded network, take a TV-Box from the VLAN, and it should actually work immediately, fully integrated and error-free within the cascaded network.

By the way, one concept doesn’t exclude the other, so the first step is to try it out as a pilot with a TV-Box and it’s completely sufficient.

    Hello @kaetho

    Works perfectly.

It’s best to create a VLAN (IPTV).. and select the networks accordingly in the IGMP proxy settings. So it doesn’t need any workaround solutions… neither via software nor via a separate line from the IB. Also needs a FW control..

Hmm, that’s actually how I’ve been doing it, it’s been working perfectly for a year now, as you write 👍.

I’ll have to try @Werner’s suggestion. It’s almost Easter.

I have activated IGMP Proxy for the default network and it doesn’t work. TV picture stops after 5-10 seconds.

does there necessarily have to be a vlan?

    Thank you

    Hi @ch.kuehn

If the IGMP proxy works, then it also works from the LAN 😉

How is your TV-Box connected to the network?

    Hello @r00t

thanks for the reply. The TV box is connected to the USW-16-POW switch with a cable, which is connected to the UDM PRo.

I also tried connecting the TV box directly to the UDM Pro, but this doesn’t work either.

the router has 192.168.0.1, the gateway has 192.168.1.1.

could it be that this might be the reason?

    Hi @ch.kuehn

It should fit - of course there can’t be any overlaps, so don’t choose the same net on both sides.

Has it ever worked? If so, I would restart the UDM - perhaps the IGMP proxy has said goodbye. IGMP snooping is enabled?

    @r00t

IGMP Proxy and IGMP Snooping not the same?

Under network settings, IGMP snooping is activated for the default network.

I just restarted UDM Pro today.

Before that I had a USG and it didn’t work with that either.

Just had a case of a UDM today. Igmp activated. Strangely enough, I had to reset the TV-Box, but after that hazs worked without any problems
