Secure access to the router portal via https

Dear Community,

You can adjust your WLAN and Internet settings via the router's web portal. Until now you have been accessing the portal via http://internetbox.home or 192.168.1.1.

From now on, you'll access the router portal with an Internet box 3 and 4 via the encrypted domain https://internetbox.swisscom.ch. This is how we're making the web portal even more secure.

Nothing will change for you. If you call the old domain or the router IP (192.168.1.1) and your router is connected to the Internet, you will automatically be redirected to the new encrypted domain. If your router is not connected to the Internet, the web portal will still be accessible via "http".

Please note that you must still be connected to your Internet at home for the access to work.

Technically adept customers who have activated DHCP option 6 or configure the DNS server on the device must necessarily access the web portal via https://192.168.1.1.

The change is taking place currently. A new firmware will not be rolled out.

Good morning

Yes, I have a question: I have given my internet box the address 192.168.6.1. When I try to open its web portal by typing that address into the browser's URL field, the browser sometimes gets redirected to that "internetbox" link, then fails to open that page. How can I get rid of this redirection? It's breaking access to my box.

Thank you for your answer. However, it states the problem, not the solution... The way I see it, one of these two things must happen:

- the box stops redirecting my request to the encrypted domain and just answers to my HTTP request

- the Swisscom name server that resolves "internetbox.swisscom.ch" must be aware of my box's local IP address and redirect to that instead of just assuming the address is still 192.168.1.1

A ticket to get this issue resolved is under way with second-level support after I got through three customer supporters, the last of which, as opposed to the other two, even spoke German.

I wonder what happens to people who require support but don't speak English...

Make sure to prefix the IP with https: In your case, this should look like this: https://192.168.6.1

Your browser should show you a certificate error. After accepting it, you should see the web-ui.

If you access the IP via http, the server will redirect you to internetbox.swisscom.ch

This is done via the internal dns-server on the box. If you are using a custom DNS setup (like PiHole or AdGuard) and don't forward/delegate the requests to the IB, you will have to manually create an A record for the box. Please note, that VPN-Services like Apple private relay also break this.

What a bummer! As someone, who has many English-speaking friends, I can feel your pain.

If all of my points above do not apply to you: the firmware 14.00.50 solved multiple issues with the web-ui. Keep in mind that after updating, it will take some time until port 443 is active again.

Dear r00t - Accessing the router without HTTPS had worked intermittently before, but the new firmware now appears to have solved my problem completely. Thank you!
