Swisscom Home App is switched off

  • Hello community

    I received an email from Swisscom at 12:43 today stating that Home App will be switched off on March 1, 2023. For Smart Home devices, it is recommended to use the apps from the respective manufacturers. This means that the corresponding app should be used for Sonos etc. and no longer the “central” Home App, which is very practical and often used for me.

    Great that I need to download more apps… or did I not understand something correctly?

    Greetings wändi

    Is Swisscom really serious that outgoing landline calls from cell phones will also disappear without replacement as of March 1, 2023 with Home App? That would be a huge step backwards. Or can you make outgoing landline calls from your cell phone from another app?

    Nope, you got it right…

    The future will be better if the common Matter Standard becomes established…but it will still take a while…

    In the meantime, you can use MyStrom Home, which brings the operation of different providers under one roof:

    There is a lot of freeware for Android, but only a few for iOS.

    I don’t have much experience with it because I have good reception and unlimited on my mobile and don’t have to rely on it, but I’m currently using the SIP client Zoiper lite on my iPhone “for playing”.

    I also received the email and think it’s a shame that this app is being shut down. I use this a lot because it is an app on which I can use several products.

    Swisscom is taking the wrong approach here. In other words, you can save yourself to death and no longer stand out from your competitors.

    Zoiper lite? However, the Microsoft Store says Windows. Is there something like this for iOS?

    Yes, Zoiper Lite is available for iOS

    I also played around with it and my experiences were very mixed. If the app is not running in the background, it will not work. So if you close the app, no more calls will come in.

    Yes, the app is a bit clumsy. If you have closed it, you have to log in/register again every time you restart, for example.

    There are certainly other/better SIP clients, but the phone in the Home App was already optimal. Everything that has to do with Swisscom and Smart Home is integrated in one app.

    Can you please explain this in more detail? However, this does not replace the free function of Home App and apparently still requires a contract with a provider.

    Hello POGO 1104
    Yes, I know the solution with the MyStrom app and I can switch almost seamlessly.

    I just didn’t want to mention this yet because I didn’t want to clutter the post.

    @Chips

    There are SIP clients (VoIP phone/softphone/IP phone apps) that are tied to a specific telephony provider and can therefore only run with an additional contract.

    There are SIP clients that are completely independent of a telephony provider. This is available as freeware or as a paid app (one-time or annual subscription).

    There are SIP clients that can be used with a paid telephony provider or also for free in connection with the IB. This is available as freeware or as a paid app (one-time or annual subscription).

    Unfortunately, the selection for iOS is very thin and I fear that there is no real alternative to the HomeApp phone. As already mentioned, Zoiper Lite is free but puny and Zoiper Pro costs $10/year.

    P.S.:

    For Windows PCs/laptops, Phone Lite is an excellent freeware that works very well with the IB.

    As far as I know, there are no plans to integrate the telephony function into mySwisscom.

    I think that’s a real shame too. But - Swisscom has competed with this function because it can no longer sell DECT telephones if every cell phone then adopts this function…

    @wändi

    From my point of view it is not competition. A DECT phone is far superior to an app in terms of battery consumption, range, radiation, functionality, handling, …

    In addition, the sale of devices is unlikely to be a big business for Swisscom.

    I just think it’s a shame that Swisscom is liquidating the telephony function of Home App. In the spring of 2020 alone, during the first corona hysteria, when I was abroad and my flight back to Switzerland was canceled by Swiss, I saved hundreds of francs in telephone costs. Friends of mine who found themselves in the same unfortunate situation had to make calls to Switzerland with their mobile subscriptions and were surprised at home with shocking bills from the telcos. There are always cases where it can’t be resolved with a 10-minute phone call. The airlines made us wait on the phone for hours in endless loops…

    Swisscom definitely won’t make any friends by canceling this service. 😠

    If it were possible, you would get at least 10 likes from me at once for your post…

    I also find the abolition of mobile landline telephony without replacement to be the biggest and actually completely unnecessary reduction in services for us Swisscom customers when the Home App is abolished.

    In another article I have already suggested removing mobile landline telephony from the Home App and making it available to customers again as an independent Swisscom telephone app.

    Unfortunately, the problem with my suggestions to Swisscom in the past has always been that I’m just a normal customer, which is usually simply ignored when making product decisions anyway.
