VoLTE in roaming

Hello,

I know that VoLTE was activated for roaming in the US, but that this was due to discontinuation of 3G in the country.

My question, however, is the following - do you plan to activate VoLTE in roaming in other countries or this is linked to availability of 3G and VoLTE in roaming will only be activated only when the country discontinues 3G services?

We are in 2022 and it's a shame not to have VoLTE in roaming.

VoLTE requires data roaming and therefore data consumption abroad. Since many people still don't use data roaming abroad, this doesn't work either... (or am I so wrong?)

So for me, it was already the case before the switch-off that I always had VoLTE in the 4G/LTE network of Telekom and Vodafone and this also worked properly.

I rather think that this is due to the settings on the smartphone, and less to the configuration of Swisscom.
Which device do you use?

Yes, indeed, it requires mobile data in general both in home network and in roaming. And, most probably, you're completely right that many people don't use data roaming (even though in most plans it's included).

On the other hand, as I'm also using CellMapper to collect signal level everywhere I go, I'm using my phone in NR/LTE mode, so it doesn't switch to 3G. Hence, my question. I am able, obviously to use VoLTE in home network, so my phone seems to be correctly configured.

If you check out Calculateur des tarifs d'appels à l'étranger | Swisscom, Germany is probably the only neighboring country where VoLTE in roaming is active.

And to reply to your question, I'm using Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G Exynos (CH) version. But, as I said above, it seems to be configured correctly, as I am using VoLTE when in Swisscom network

Voice traffic is not billed like data traffic, regardless of how the service is delivered (VoLTE, GSM or WiFi calling). I guess this happens automatically in the background, either initiated by the phone or the backend.

Austria, T-Mobile-AUT
Canada, Telus
Danemark, Telenor
Germany, T-Mobile-DEU
Greece, Cosmote
Norvay, Telenor
Sweden, Telenor SWE
USA, AT&T and T-Mobile-USA
India, Jio
Iceland, Nova

More countries will follow in the next few weeks.

now, I can definitely mark this as a solution as it notifies us that more countries will follow and that there is an ongoing work to enable VoLTE on more network in roaming.
