“Weak web portal password” message

  • Since firmware 13.01.24, which was installed on all IB2s a few days ago, I always get the message “Weak web portal password” when I log in. In this case it is a router from a customer with a line that does not run perfectly and only has very rare and unpredictable problems. That’s why I log into the router from time to time via VPN to do a speed test and view the diagnostic data. And I certainly can’t just change the password and lock the customer out. The password is 8 characters long but has no special characters. But that doesn’t matter anyway, in order to get to this login window you have to either get into the WLAN (it has a long and secure password), dial in via VPN (also very complex passwords) or plug into the router via LAN (but then you can immediately reset the password with the + key).

    How can I prevent this message from appearing every time?

      By clicking on “Change password” you can easily get to the setting in which you need to change the password. Then you can still use the web UI in the menu on the page without changing the password. Somehow I haven’t tried that 😅

      But yes, I will of course change the password to something secure at the next opportunity with the customer

    No, but you can inform the customer about the changed security requirements and, with their consent, set a new, more secure password.

    @“x”#72520I also received the new firmware for the IB3. Then the message came that the old password was too weak. But it far exceeds Swisscom’s requirements. Then there were problems with changing it. You have to enter the new password twice. Error message: do not match. However, 100% no errors were made when entering. At some point it suddenly worked. Strange.

    Speaking of which: The English message says “We recommend using a stronger password.”

    Exgüsi, but if it says “recommend”, then I expect that I won’t be forced to click on “Change Password”.

    By the way, my password safe says that my password has an entropy of 104 bits and a length of 20 characters. I’m honestly wondering what could be even stronger when certain large telecommunications companies in Swiss…eh…Switzerland have weaker requirements for access to really sensitive internal systems.

    Admittedly, the password was last changed on July 11, 2019, but if the password is too old - maybe you can write it like that?

    Frankly speaking, the feature doesn’t look all that smooth.

    @daffy2

    Normally the information comes in German if you change the language in the menu in the top right corner.

    The password works well if you e.g. uses a capital letter and a hyphen.

    Yo. Unless you have English as the default in your browser. 😛

    I’ll put it this way: My Password Safe-produced entropy definitely comes from somewhere 😉 - so that’s definitely not the reason.

    Again: That was just an “oh, and what I wanted to say” - it’s a little annoying because everything isn’t working properly and isn’t really clean, but functionally it’s not defective.
