Mail behaving strangely

  • Hi,

I have done “Mailbox – Get All New Mail” in Mac-Mail a dozen times today: no new messages.

Last “Get” attempt was 17:25 today: no new messages.

Next I logged in to bluewin webmail & see three new (“new” = not delivered to imaps) messages: two from Sunday, one from 02:09 this morning!

I immediately returned to Mac-Mail…magic!! The 3 “new” messages are in my inbox!!!

This has been going on for a few days.

…is it just me, or is there some sort of imaps issue chez Swisscom?

    Chris

    • After wasting time with everything from logs to packet-captures, I finally noticed a simple anomaly: one of my bluewin mail accounts had been switched to “offline” in Mac-Mail.

This particular “anonymised” account is used only for signing-up to web sites and doesn’t get much traffic after the first “click here to confirm your mail address” nonsense.

I don’t recall setting that account offline, but setting it online last night fixed the problem.

      No other settings edited/changed.

All why/how questions remain unanswered – but it works.

To answer my own question: “is it just me?”. Yes

      Chris

    Thanks @DomiP

    OK, but…

The only “event” that occurred between no new messages and three long-overdue messages arriving in imaps Mac-Mail was my visit to bluewin webmail: zero updates; zero config changes (by me) on any device in my network.

…for sure I’ll play with settings tomorrow morning, but with little confidence that this is the solution.
