Update email settings...

  • @ChristianG

Emails from Swisscom have been bothering me for a few days now and I have to update the email settings for some of my email addresses…

Well the thing is, I got 1 million. % I’m sure that I have set the current settings with SSL and pipapo on all of my active mail clients for >3 years - as it has to be.

It may be that what feels like 100 years ago I set up a POP3 retrieval of a Bluewin account for testing purposes on GMX, Yahoo, Web.de and the like, which were used on a trial basis at the time. I don’t know anymore. Haven’t used any of these GMX and Co accounts for 99 years…

What to do? Ignore these notification emails from Swisscom?

    ….keep on rockin' 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Today a user who received the message asked me what to do had already adjusted everything long beforehand.

I told him to just ignore the message and we’ll see later which device it no longer works on.

Ignore, unfortunately it is not possible for me to select you from the list so that you no longer receive this email. After the last wave of information and the deactivation of the non-secure connections, you will no longer receive this email.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Of course, my statement does not apply to all the other Bluewin customers who have not yet made the switch.

    Greeting

    Chris

Thanks for the information, the message in question also caused questions among my circle of friends as to what should be done, even though everything here had already been adjusted long before 😅

Is this email from you (Swisscom)?

Does anyone know by chance whether this is a real email from Swisscom and whether I can trust it completely? If so, why don’t all customers get this email?

I assume that this email is already from Swisscom. I received a few phones yesterday and today because of this 😉

    Background to this.

I myself have not yet received this email. I think this is simply a reminder that will be sent out to all customers in stages.

I’m totally with you! (I was also “surprised” by this email today - at first I thought it was PHISHING of the well-crafted variety)

@ChristianG: Would it really be sooooo terribly difficult to do without the available tracking emails from nl.swisscom.com? - We are used to Swisscom contacting us under swisscom.ch - other domains are therefore extremely suspicious a priori!

In addition, such “watering can emails” cause more confusion than benefit; If in doubt, just go for a coffee with someone on 0800 800 800 and ask what kind of unsettled customer inquiries are coming in!

    Show original language (German)

I also find the emails from “nl.swisscom.com” suboptimal.

We’ll see what happens when only encrypted email access is really possible (when will that finally happen?). There will definitely be those who haven’t made the switch yet and will ask here 😉 On the info page it says “from now on”, but that’s a flexible concept of time…

And Swisscom wants to catch as many customers as possible before the changeover, otherwise there will be complaints. Is there now more because you just write to everyone again without being filtered? So there are “hits” either way…

    Show original language (German)

I also received such an email just a few days ago.

And I don’t have a single device that still needs adjustments to the mail settings.

I’m not sure if these emails are correct…

One would also like to note: It is a damn impudence that this email is being sent - once again - to customers who have made this adjustment well over a year ago!

This just generates another bunch of pointless support effort because all the customers then come to us for the fifth time and ask what they should do… (it’s not like the average Swisscom customer cares about this would remember that he has received this email for the umpteenth time and has contacted us several times about it).

    Show original language (German)

    What’s all this about?

I too am annoyed by the email asking me to adjust my settings in the email account. It’s really suspicious if you have to download an exe file that then makes changes to the computer.

But now comes the best part: I use Windows 10 and Thunderbird. When I then run the updater, the following message comes up:

    “no installed email program found”

    It’s great

    Show original language (German)

Question back: what does that mean? 😉

Surely you read the thread here before you wrote? Actually, it would have been clear afterwards what it was about and why you were receiving this email.

And then you actually download an.exe file (the email updater, which specifically states that it only works with Windows 7, 8.x & 10 / Windows Live Mail, Windows 8 Mail and Office Outlook (2007 - 2019) is compatible, and that is actually superfluous and oversized for a few old email settings) and then defend yourself here?

Don’t be angry, but it’s just like everywhere else: a little more personal responsibility would be great 😉

    Show original language (German)

I’ll quote myself from another thread here:

"It is a damn impudence that this email is being sent - once again - to customers who have made this adjustment well over a year ago!

That just generates a bunch of pointless support effort again because all the customers then come to us for the fifth time and ask what they should do… (it’s not like the average Swisscom customer cares about that would remind you that he has received this Swisscom email for the umpteenth time and has therefore already contacted us several times, which is why everything has long since been done and checked)."

As far as I remember, the first “wave” of these emails (which came to you sometime 1.5 or 2.5 years ago) only targeted those customers who had registered unencrypted within the last x weeks. Since then, Swisscom seems to have lost this sophisticated technological option, which is why several waves were later released in which ALL customers were bothered with this nonsense. This is really not understandable because, as I said, it generates a bunch of completely pointless inquiries from countless IT providers in the country - and certainly also from the Swisscom hotline.

I can actually only think of two possible explanations for this:

    1. Those responsible are simply not completely tight

    2. The hotline is instructed to refer all such inquiries to MyService, which is hoped to result in a boost in new MyService subscriptions. Then it would be a perfidious marketing strategy
