Content Filtering: Protect Your Home Network With Web

  • Is there a solution with Internetbox2 to protect the home network with content filters? Do you have to use OpenDNS?

    Thank you

    • There are different ways to use content filters.

For me personally, using DNS services is almost the easiest.

I myself built a DNS using Pi Hole on a Raspberry Pi, which directly blocks sites that I don’t want on the internet.

Alternatively, you can also use block services such as Adguard: https://adguard.com/de/adguard-dns/overview.html

Not only lists for ad blocking but also for other “sites” 😏 are offered here. You can simply set an IP from Adguard as DNS in the Internet box and it should work.

    Hello @Polureg @DomiP

As Dominik said, I also use a PiHole at home.

You can block unwanted sites there.

But if you manually enter a DNS server on your device, the requests will not go out via the PiHole.

I have listed the tracking sites on PiHole that are trying to extract data.

    Greetings Lorenz

Exactly, in theory you would also have to have a VPN that brings you into the network from outside. But it’s cumbersome and a bit inefficient…

It is possible with pi-hole to determine for each device in the local network whether the requests should be filtered or not. The solution is to enter the address of the pi-hole device as the DNS site for the device (to be filtered). It works best if you give a static address for the pi-hole host.

Advantage: you can determine individually for each device whether it needs to be filtered or not

Disadvantage: cumbersome for larger LANS with many devices.
