Turn Wi-Fi on manually, turn off automatically

  • We switch the WiFi on and off sporadically via the Swisscom app. Unfortunately, it’s always forgotten and then it stays on overnight.

The only option I see is to always turn on the WiFi for 30 minutes in the evening, then it would be switched off before going to sleep.

Isn’t there a way to send an automatic power off command just when it should be on? According to ’If WiFi is on, turn it off, otherwise don’t do anything’.

    Greetings Pat

    • Nope, there is currently no other option than the workaround you are using

You can control the WLAN time precisely in the router menu.

Surely you know when you usually need the WiFi.

I have it controlled so that the WiFi turns on at 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and turns off at 12:00 a.m. On weekends, it turns on at 9:00 and off at 0:00.

This ensures that the WiFi is switched off after midnight.

If you need it after midnight, you can still activate it manually.

    Hello @roku73

Your idea would be correct, but the router is only a meter away from my wife’s workplace. We didn’t want to burden them unnecessarily with WiFi radiation. That’s why I was looking for a solution that would only activate it when needed…

But at the moment I just select the 30 minutes and then select them again.

Hello @pat67, there is no real solution. You could try a “myStrom WiFi Switch”. Then you can schedule it to come in and out. Here you can find further information if you would like to use this. If this option would suit you, Swisscom currently has a discount.

Kind regards and happy new year, Joel

Radiation, oh dear, do you always put the smartphones, which you probably have, on flight mode when you don’t need them? Oh no, you need that to turn WiFi on and off.

Your wife definitely doesn’t work 24 hours a day. You can definitely create a plan that doesn’t get in your wife’s way and automate the WiFi signal.
