How to view your photos and movies and play music on blue TV

The TV-Box from Swisscom offers various apps for viewing or listening to personal content such as holiday movies, birthday photos and your favourite music. Read on for more info.

Photos, movies, music: the apps that can do everything

myCloud

Upload your photos, videos and music from your computer to myCloud and then view them on blue TV via the myCloud app. When you log in, these are displayed at the foot of the Swisscom blue TV home screen.

Mediacenter

This app lets you transfer pictures to your TV via USB or DLNA. After launching the app, you can send your photos, videos and music to your TV via “Cast to Device”. If you are using a USB device, it must be formatted to FAT16 or FAT32. The Media Centre app is only available on the ‘TV Box (UHD)’.

AirScreen

This lets you enjoy your photos, videos and music on your TV from iOS devices (iPhone, iPad etc.) via AirPlay and from Android devices via Miracast or Google Cast. You can view your own content through Google Cast or Cast from your Windows PC.
You can use the AirScreen app free of charge for one month, after which you will be charged.Le NTFS n’est pas compatible avec la HD-Box et l’exFAT n’est pas pris en charge.

Plex

If you use Plex app to organise your photos, videos and music on your mobile or tablet, you can also use it on blue TV. You need a Plex server for this, so you can log yourself from the app.

Apps for video and sound

VLC

Use this app to display movies and music that are also on your NAS or PC on your TV via DLNA or SMB. If you are using a USB device, it must be formatted to FAT16 or FAT32. NTFS only works with the UHD-Box, exFAT does not.

YouTube

You can access all your YouTube content on blue TV via the YouTube app. If you have your own YouTube channel, you can of course also watch it.

Spotify

The Spotify app is also great for your favourite music. A particularly cool feature: You don’t have to download the music first, but can stream certain albums or playlists directly via Spotify. To do this, create a Spotify account, open the app on your TV-Box and log in.

DS video

If you store your files on a Synology NAS, you can watch films on your TV via the DS video app. For photos on this NAS, use the DS photo app (up to Disk Station Manager 6) or Synology Photos (Disk Station Manager 7 or higher). Use one of the versions above for music.

You can only use these functions with a Swisscom TV-Box and not with the blue TV app on the smart TV.

Unfortunately, YouTube, DS Video and VLC, for example, do not work properly this way. They keep losing their login details (I don’t think it’s so funny having to log in/register again every time), they don’t start at all (VLC) or they keep crashing (YouTube).

Hello @proru, Do you have a UHD box and have problems with YouTube, DS video and VLC? What do you do with the box so that the login data keeps getting lost? Do you reset each time? And did you connect the box via cable or WiFi?

Hello @Onestone
The TV-Box is connected directly to the router via cable.
But your tip about the reset is valuable! Every now and then I reset when the box is totally stuck. Since I now almost always access my Synology NAS via a ‘multimedia laptop’, which is connected to my TV via HDMI, and play YouTube via a browser and therefore rarely use these Swisscom apps, I’ll take a look at whether the login details are first or not. only fall out after a reset.

Hello proru, if you reset the box, then of course it loses the logins (otherwise it wouldn’t be a reset), and you have to re-enter all logins afterwards. You have to explain to me in more detail why and when playing via VLC doesn’t work and YouTube stalls.

Hello everyone. Awox can’t play MKV’s, only the VLC player on the UHD TV box can do that. It’s not a problem, I convert the MKV’s into AVI format. The problem now is that every film stops after about 1 hour. The films can be watched on other devices without any problems. Unfortunately it’s not usable.

Hello everyone

We have supplemented this article with an app: On Swisscom TV you can now play your pictures, videos and music via AirScreen.

If you have any questions, the community is happy to help you!

Kind regards, Miriam

Simply install the PLEX client under Apps.

Then start and log in your existing PLEX user (with a link to your PLEX server, etc.) under Settings, then follow the instructions.

AirScreen sometimes has problems with vertical images that have been set from wide to vertical; these are then displayed horizontally incorrectly.

Everything is correct with myCloud or OneDrive and also with iMAC or Windows.

Hi Feuprieplie25,

For the moment the Disney+ application will not be available with Swisscom TV. However, we are always studying new possibilities and will inform our customers in the future whether it will be possible to download the App with Swisscom TV.

Best regards

Feuprieplie25 : The “Disney+” app has been available on all Swisscom TV boxes since 15.11.2023. And you can buy a Disney+ subscription directly from Swisscom under “Additional packages” (blue TV additional packages, voice packages & more | Swisscom) and pay conveniently via Swisscom invoice.
Or subscribe to “blue SuperMax” or “Blue binge”, which include a Disney+ subscription.
