@Rextado

RCS can only be used via the main SIM. It’s like SMS. It’s the same there too. I would also like it to work on both or all 3 devices with dual SIM. Unfortunately it does not work. Probably won’t change anytime soon, if at all.

I’ve been waiting for this RCS for a long time. Since the Swisscom ruling OK. It is being tested at Swisscom and was already planned last year. That’s why I hope again for the end of the year. Everyone has at least the SMS / MMS. On another note, Facebook has promised messaging compatibility between Facebook Messenger (which I use in addition to SMS and soon RCS because of Facebook) with WhatsApp next year. This reduces the problems of various systems.

That’s it for RCS in 2019. I’m happy to be proven wrong, but the Frozen Zone will begin shortly (or it has already begun internally). Let’s hope for 2020.

Messaging: Swisscom wants to introduce RCS by the end of the year

Published on Monday, April 15, 2019, at 11:06 a.m. by Stefan Rechsteiner

Swisscom wants to launch Rich Communications Suite, or “RCS” for short, this year. The technology is the “official successor” to SMS. The industry standard was developed by the GSM Association (GSMA) and introduced in 2012.

Can you still believe that, or was it just a big joke from Swisscom??????

It helps to read the article properly. The last section is about a completely different problem (attacks on SIM cards). No SIM cards from DACH were affected. But that has nothing to do with RCS.

RCS will certainly not have an easy time against WhatsApp & Co, that’s true! But imagine writing a message to someone and not having to worry about which messenger the recipient has, the message arrives! Just like with email, it doesn’t matter whether the addressee has Mutt, Thunderbird or Apple Mail, the email ends up in the inbox! I’m definitely excited to see what happens next with RCS.

@Betteickio84

Patience doesn’t seem to be your strong point. It was announced for the end of 2019 and now it’s January 3, 2020… With projects like this it can quickly happen that there are delays of a few months. “Only” problems have to arise in operation with the test users or with the device manufacturers and the end of 2019 will turn into spring or summer 2020.

P.S.

RCS is called Rich Communication Services, not Rich Communications Suite.

@Leiteintau76 I haven’t received a request like this yet. I’ve been using RCS for a while now thanks to the Activity Launcher. But it would still be great if it came really quickly for everyone. Has anyone else received a request like this?

Hello @Anonymous

What’s wrong with my statement (“__RCS can only be used via the main SIM. It’s like with SMS. It’s the same there. I would also like it if it worked on both or all 3 devices with dual SIM. Unfortunately it doesn’t work. It probably won’t be changed quickly, if at all. ”) wrong?

I activated RCS via Activity Launcher and have been using it for a while. But I can only use it on 1 phone at a time. I have 3 SIM cards and it only works on the main SIM card. By the way, that’s how it is in every country in the world with the people I’ve had contact with so far (as far as users in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Uruguay are concerned). RCS is already officially available in DE. Some of my contacts are already using it there. But you can only do this via your main SIM card. It’s the same with SMS. Despite having 3 SIM cards, I only receive SMS messages on my main SIM card.

I haven’t received any such request either, and my approximately 45 contacts at Swisscom aren’t there either.

I don’t think there is a request like this for a long time, if there ever is one. Unfortunately that’s how it is

@Betteickio84 That’s exactly why I was surprised. A few days have passed since @Leiteintau76 wrote this information. And so far only he is known to have received such a request from Swisscom. Therefore, it would be interesting to know why he received a request and others did not. Or whether certain Swisscom test subjects only have the opportunity to test it and report errors.

@Anonymous Because of my subscription, I have multi-device SIM cards from Swisscom (1 number, 3 SIM cards (including 1 main SIM card and 2 multi-device SIM cards)). Both SMS and RCS messages only reach the main SIM card. Can you also activate this somewhere so that it works on all SIM cards?

In addition, the Swisscom homepage explicitly states that SMS/MMS is NOT possible on the additional devices (multi-device) (scroll down and click on the “Services” section)! >> https://bit.ly/2N1TWq8

As of today we do not support RCS. Therefore everything that is written on the homepage is absolutely correct. I just said that there are now solutions that make RCS possible even in multi-device cases.
