New Switch - UHD - TV compatible

Hello

We have a new switch in our range.

Great product at a great price:

And here is the link to the help page. There is also a configuration file there for anyone who already owns the switch or wants to buy it somewhere else:

At the latest when Swisscom releases wired IP phones to the IB on Anschluss, a PoE switch that is compatible with the UHD box should also be on offer.

There are various small, inexpensive 8 port switches on the market in which 4 ports have PoE. But that doesn’t help much if none of them are officially compatible with UHD boxes.

Is it even available yet? I’ve been to 2 shops where they didn’t even have a clue it existed. Although it was said online, the Switch is available in these shops. I have now ordered it online.

It’s actually the case that my old switch doesn’t work with UHD. That’s why I’m happy if this one can do it.

I received the switch a day after ordering it online. It’s a little bigger than the old Netgear, but it’s worked without any problems so far.

I didn’t notice any particular problems with the old Netgear myself, what kind of problem did you have?

Hello everyone,

here is my experience. Had a connection via my Cisco SD2008 switch in the living room (IB in the office next door). Was able to select and watch UHD channels. But unfortunately only a few seconds. Then the image froze (only colored pixels). However, the sound continued without any problems. Thought it was a problem with the line (100MB from Swisscom). That’s why I had the management check. Still the same picture. So I tried a direct Ethernet Vrb. from the IB (SWisscom) to the TV box. Perfect since then. Apparently normal switches cannot transmit the UHD signal properly. The current box from Swisscom is too big for me compared to my SD2008. And why does it take a special switch to transmit UHD? Surely Swisscom has encrypted something special again in order to sell their box? Just a question.

No, and there’s no need for regular table banter. The reason is that not every router supports IGMP snooping. Everything is visible in the text:

https://www.tuxone.ch/2013/07/swisscom-multicast-im-lan.html

The text is intended for the HD routers. The UHD box is now available and there is a special switch for it. If you have a switch that supports IGMP snooping you can of course choose this, but if you have the image forged then it probably doesn’t have IGMP snooping….

Dear dear hed,

thanks for the reprimand. You won’t find new joy in this way. Getting the hint once (see @Dani) is enough. I understood that. Instead, you would have preferred to send me a link, like @Dani and @Poweruser did, where I could have read about it.

Are you a Swisscom employee? If yes; How long?

Just for your information and Oot: I was in this company (PTT, district telephone directorate, telecommunications directorate and Swisscom) for 30 years until they just wanted to close our service (the oldest telecommunications service). A few people from us then bought the service from Swisscom and it still exists today.

Still wish you a nice day.

Hello Dani and power users,

I read information under links and have now expanded my understanding of it. Thank you both.

Dear René52

Sorry, I didn’t mean to step on your toes with that.

With your contribution you gave me a template that I used as an example to make an “all-round attack” against the conspiracy theorists who are becoming more and more widespread in such forums.

Hello hed

Apology accepted.

But please take a closer look next time to see if someone simply makes an assertion or asks a question like this:

[Did Swisscom surely encrypt something special to sell their box? Just a question].

I didn’t say they did that. So that’s it for me.
