maybe… this could also be a weakness on the side of Swisscom’s DNS servers. Unfortunately the Internet-Box does not allow the manual adjustment or addition of other public DNS servers such as Google, openDNS, FreeDNS, etc. The only way to check is to add it manually in the network settings of your computer. Test for 1 week and then tell us if you have noticed any improvements.
If it turns out the problem is with their DNS, it’s up to them to fix that. In fact, in all cases it is up to them to sort it out. Has anyone been able to test with alternative DNS?
On the other hand, it seems to me that to advise restarting a router or checking the cabling there are operators on this forum but when we ask a few more technical questions there is radio silence.
This problem is really strange. I just tried to watch the same video from my Mac over wifi and ethernet. It seems to be related to the browser used to view it. I have problems with Safari and Chrome but less so with Firefox with either connection. However, it remains slow at times. With my iPhone, no reading problem either. It seems that this could come from a QoS settings problem on the part of Swisscom. The DNS solution different from those of Swisscom does not solve anything.
Is there a Swisscomer in the forum to help us?:smileywink:
Good morning
By activating IPv6 on my internet box, the slowness seems to have disappeared for Google services for French-speaking videos. On the other hand, the videos that are rarely watched in Europe are super slow to load like 109 kbps (vs 100,000+ kbps) but that must surely come from Google (e.g. they are in their USA datacenters but not in Europe).
In any case it’s not a problem with the DNS because I tested with those from Google and it was the same.
What’s strange is that it’s not on all the videos. On the most watched ones, there is no problem whereas on videos which only have 30,000 views and in English it often happens that it is almost impossible to watch them.
Same observation after several tests.
- Via free VPN–>no worries (while without VPN impossible via swisscom at the same time), tested on mobile and PC
- With google or opendns DNS–>no improvement either.
I can certainly exclude the problem of plugin flash etc… because with the same config it works via other networks which my swisscom connection.
I find it strange that no member of the swisscom staff provides any leads on this post… Because my case does not seem isolated from afar.
Has anyone ever noticed slowdowns with other popular services, such as Facebook? Or others? (apple services for example)
If this can open up avenues, here is the response that I posted following a thread on slow access to the Apple Store that I had opened myself:
"Hello everyone!
For your information, I tried during the day to use the 4G network via my iPhone: and there, with a very low speed (I have an infinity S), I downloaded my update in… 4 minutes while via the Internet the délai indicated went up to 2 days! 😉 The flow being correct, it seemed logical to me that the problem came from micro-cuts.
AND in fact, after a day of monitoring by Swisscom, several resets of the box (directly by Swisscom technicians or by myself), the problem has been resolved for the moment. The micro-cuts seem to be a bad memory. How and why, I don’t know, but one thing is certain, the problem did indeed come from the provider and/or the box and not from Apple.
So! If my example can help someone, so much the better! And thank you again to the patient and competent people I had on the hotline."
Well I just posted on the very slow AppleStore thread. It’s the same for me for YouTube as for the AppleStore and a VPN solves the problem while the DNS change solution has no effect. What we see with an AppStore download is that the first Mb, around 64 Mb for me, are very fast then the speed drops suddenly. It actually looks like a service restriction which is triggered after identifying the type of download.
Hello everyone,
We thank you for your messages on our various platforms and the detailed details you have provided to us. Thanks to you, analyzes were carried out and the error corrected.
If you still experience such disruptions, please send a private message to one of the moderators indicating the following information:

It seems that the problem actually comes from certain IP address ranges (WAN) with the Internet Box.
After restarting or resetting the router and changing the IP/IP range, everything works perfectly again (Hotline technicians can also make manual IP changes).
The problem is not only limited to Youtube but other streaming sites as well.
It’s quite a strange phenomenon.
The firmware (FW) of the Internet Box, the DNS used, or the type of connection used (LAN/WLAN) do not seem to have an impact on this problem.
But in all cases I was able to resolve it via an IP change (WAN), whether at home or at friends’ houses, and whatever the FW of the Internet Box.
Good morning,
I’m not sure if I’m the victim of the same problem, but for the past few days Netflix streaming has been very slow and it takes a lot of viewing time for the resolution to go up to 1080P.
I watch Netflix on my PS3 which is connected by Ethernet cable to my Pirelli Centro Grande router and I have a Vivo Casa M subscription at 50Mb/s in theory.
I restarted my router but with no improvement.
Until a few days ago, I had absolutely no problem streaming Netflix…
I’d be curious to know if anyone has the same issues as me.
Thanks in advance!
Am I the only one who made this observation? Since the start of the school holidays in particular, the problem has appeared again. As luck would have it, in the evening only. At the time of writing this message, it is impossible to watch a YouTube video with quality higher than 240p.
It’s starting to get painful. Paying more than 100.- for a 200 mbps connection and not being able to benefit from popular services is not normal.
Sunday July 26 8:15 p.m. Youtube unusable except in 144p and whatever the video. The play store takes a long time to simply display the app icons. I’m not even talking about downloading.
Is there anything against Google services? At more than 100.- per month for 200mbps, we dare to demand correct speed on all services?
