Bluewin mail from Outlook not working with VPN

hi community,

I've installed NordVPN on my Windows 10 computer and now Outlook with my Bluewin email account can't send mails anymore, but can receive. Seems SMTP is not able to sent data through the VPN.

Any idea how to solve this problem?

small correction, also receiving with POP3 is not working anymore

Yes when I put NordVPN in pause it works all well...

Hmm, are you familiar with the CLI? You could check, using a Ping, if the server is theoretically reachable...

If so, maybe the Mail client OR the Mail-App is blocking the Traffic. I think there could also be a small possibility, that the SMTP-Server rejects connections from such VPN Providers.

Maybe, @JanineB could give us further Details on this topic.

hi @Marcoz71 Do you get an error message in Outlook when you try to send an e-mail when VPN is turned on?

There's no general restriction for bluewin.ch e-mail servers when using a VPN connection. However, what could be, is that the IP Adresse from VPN which you share with others got blacklisted because of others abusing the IP address to send spam e-mails.

yes I had error messages in Outlook... only Outlook... with my mobile phone it works well (Huawei email app) also configure with same SMTP and POP3 servers...

Anyway, I've removed NordVPN because it's causing quite a lot of other issues, mainly slowing down quite hardly everything.

@Marcoz71 allthough everything seems Okay without NordVPN, i would suggest you to reach out to NordVPN and listing all your Problems (also those not connected with Bluewin Email) to give them a "Help" on where they could improove (or maybe give you a discount 😉 ).
