Sonos Sub Mini Makes sense?

Good evening everyone

I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with the Sonos Sub Mini. My question is, does it make sense in combination with the Playbase? Or is the Playbase already sufficient and the Mini cannot support it? My installation: Playbase and two Play 1 as background speakers. The normal sub is too strong for me, neighbors wouldn’t be happy, I’m in a 40-year-old block where relatively. I can imagine that the Mini makes sense in combination with the Beam or Arc, but is the Playbase already so good that the Mini no longer makes a difference? Maybe someone has this combination in operation and could exchange experiences . Thank you and wish you a nice end to the year. Greetings Schlabi

@Schlabi The decisive factor is the spatial dimension. Since the Sub Mini is relatively new on the market, there isn’t a lot of information on the internet yet.

I myself have the sub, i.e. the big brother, also with the Playbase and 2x Play One, and I don’t regret it. I’m also not allowed to make it too loud, and that’s possible even with the sub. It’s just a question of cost whether you want to afford the luxury.

The Playbase is completely sufficient for me - I also live in an older apartment building…

My wife always says: waaaay too much bass - no chance for any sub 🤷‍♂️

We have the Sonos Beam, 2 One SL as surround and the Sub Mini. The Sub Mini takes over the low frequencies from the beam, thus relieving it and allowing you to concentrate on the medium and high frequencies. In my opinion, this will also be the case with Playbase. And the Sub Mini offers an audible improvement even at low volumes, both when listening to music and watching TV.

The most neighborhood and WAF-friendly solution is certainly to combine the latest generation of Apple Airpods with an Apple TV box.

The sound is great and the integration with the ATV also works seamlessly:

- Open the case, put the plugs in your ears and the sound automatically switches from the TV to the headphones

- Take a plug out of your ear and the TV pauses, put the plug back in your ear and the program continues in the same place

- Put the plug back into the case and the sound automatically switches back to the TV

Of course, an Apple TV box also has other strengths, but in my opinion one of the most overlooked is the great integration with the Airpods.

Your suggestion is appreciated, but not really practical if you already have a Sonos and 🍏 third-party device park… 🤷‍♂️

It doesn’t necessarily have to be an “either/or”, but can also be an “and”.

For me, it’s simply the case that in practice I need the TV’s external speakers less and less and I’m certainly not going to invest more in them.

I used to routinely route the TV sound through the hi-fi system, but since I started using Airpods more, I only do that in exceptional cases.

Saves electricity, protects the neighbors and is absolutely suitable for 24 hours 🙂

You’re right, but if you want to watch a film with several people, it has its limits.

For two Airpods (two people) you need an Apple TV 4K, with the HD version only one Airpod (one person) is possible.

You’re right, the Airpods are of course primarily suitable for individual viewers and they really work quite brilliantly.

By the way, the two pairs of Airpods on the ATV 4K actually work, but of course it’s only a sensible use case if you already own the Airpods anyway, otherwise it’s more expensive as a new investment just for TV sound Page…

A special question is whether you want to use the special “surround sound” of the latest generation of Airpods for watching TV or not.

At first I found it rather strange that this created the illusion that the sound was not coming from the headphones at all, but was still coming from the source on the TV, but in the meantime I find the surround sound better than the “normal” headphone sound.

Definitely worth a try with the Air Pods, unfortunately my wife only has the “old” ones, which don’t offer any surround sound (as far as I know)

So, I actually wanted to give a 2nd hand sub a chance, but when I looked at the dimensions and imagined where I would place it, I decided on the mini, which was also expensive.

Can then pick it up on Tuesday. I’ll post my experience here.

So thank you for the interesting inputs and have a nice New Year’s Eve.🍾

Good evening everyone

Here is my first assessment/experience:

Is very easy to integrate, plug and play. What’s bad is that the 8-digit pin, silver on white, is almost unrecognizable.

About the sound: Playbase, Sub Mini, 2 rear Play 1 Of course, purely my subjective opinion. What I find is that the speech is clearer with the sub than without it. The bass is also noticeably more audible, perhaps reduced in the evening hours. I still have to find out how it works with action films.

I’m not sure whether these advantages justify the additional price of 499, since the Playbase is already good.
But don’t regret buying it.GrussSchlabi
