The new Swisscom Box: More than just watching TV

    • In the advertisement for 20 minutes, a mysterious gray box with a few LEDs kept readers guessing. The subtitle “Coming soon” didn’t make the whole thing any less exciting. The secret was revealed at today’s media conference. The new Swisscom Box is here!

    TV, streaming, music and Smart Home in one

    The Swisscom Box brings completely new possibilities: It combines the content from streaming and classic television on one screen, brings convenience functions such as skipping commercial breaks during your own recordings and allows you to control the Swisscom TV functions with an integrated voice assistant.

    The Swisscom Box is therefore a set-top box, voice assistant and streaming player in one. Speech recognition is still in its early stages. He is currently going to school intensively and is currently learning to understand all the dialects.

    The new Swisscom Box is available from November 17th for 129 francs, New customers with a TV M or TV L subscription get it free of charge. Customers with a UHD-capable Swisscom TV-Box will automatically benefit from the advantages of the new Entertainment OS 4 thanks to an update at the beginning of 2020.

    Integrate all apps into your personal home screen. That would be great. A lot still needs to be done with the language. In addition, the voice assistant does not work with every available app. In some cases it listens and does not suppress the sound of films or series in the apps.

    My opinion:

    For everyone who doesn’t currently have a UHD box, this is a no brainer, i.e. definitely get one:

    • fast UI
    • Robust + very stable
    • I like the design
    • Remote control is great, good feel

    For me, the added value of the voice functionality is not there yet.

    The product will certainly continue to develop and at this point, big praise for the further developments in the area of ​​TV and innovations.

    Yes, the USB infrared receiver runs without any problems with the new box and the Harmony Elite.

    I therefore assume that the Harmony One also runs smoothly.
