Internet Box Plus USB 3 throughput

I'm trying to decide between the Internet Box standard and plus. So far the only reason I see to chose the plus is the integrated VPN and NAS capabilities. However both of them can be easily achieved with any modern NAS (say Synology for instance: https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/compare/DS115/DS215j/DS115j)..)

Now what I'm interested in is the throughput of the Internet Box Plus USB NAS. With Synology aparently I can get to about 80-100 MB/s write speed. Recent USB 3 drives (say http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/storage/western-digital-my-book-4tb)) should also allow for about 100 MB/s sequential write speed. However how does the Swisscom Internet Box perform? I'm afraid that could be a big bottleneck.

Bottom line of the question 🙂 Should I get the Internet Box Plus and buy some USB 3 hard drive or am I better off getting the Internet Box standard and then buying a nice Synology NAS?

Never compare a standalone nas to a router with nas functions!

Performance will never be on par, don't forget to think about the functions and features a nas has.

If you online need a disk that is accessible from the network and don't want to spend money --> IB

Otherwise buy a nas. Synology is good (for home user imho the best)
