Hi everyone,
I’m an international student. In December 2024, I subscribed to a Swisscom mobile plan at the Cornavin store in Geneva. The staff member (a lady) only explained the monthly cost of the subscription. She never mentioned anything about a long-term contract, its duration, or any termination fees.
Due to financial difficulties, I switched to Lycamobile (kept the same number). Recently, I checked my mailbox and found an invoice from Swisscom asking me to pay CHF 956. I later also found emails in my spam folder with the same invoice.
When I called customer service, they told me this was a termination penalty because I broke a contract I didn’t even know I had. They said I should talk to the store manager. I went back to Cornavin, but the manager said he couldn't help and asked me to write to the Service des Réclamations.
This is very stressful. I genuinely wasn’t informed about the contract terms, and I had no idea how telecom contracts work in Switzerland. I can’t afford this amount at all. I’m even willing to switch back to Swisscom, but I just can’t pay CHF 956—it’s way too much for me and my family.
Has anyone faced a similar situation? Do I have any chance of getting this amount waived or reduced? What should I do next?
Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!
