Gmail

  • Good evening
Is it good or useful to have an @gmail.com address?
It seems that the receiver of the email sees the first and last name. Is it not possible, for example, to have only the initial of the first name appear, followed by the last name?
initial of the first name only, followed by the last name?
    Thank you for your help.

The link @user109 gave you is a neutral link, no one can access your Gmail account.

To put it simply: when you click on the link, Gmail connects to your account using a cookie (containing your unique login details) that is only on your computer and is personal to you.

Anyone else who clicks on the link will find themselves either on their personal account (thanks to the personal cookie on their computer) or on the Gmail login page, but never on your account.

Freimmientis36 Basically, it is not wrong to have an e-mail address that is independent of the provider.

The display name in Gmail is the name that is displayed to recipients of your messages. You can change your display name by:

      1. opening Gmail on your computer

      2. clicking on “Settings” in the top right-hand corner

      3. click on the Accounts & Import or Accounts tab

      4. click on “Edit address” under "Send as

      5. enter the name that should be displayed to the recipients of your messages

      6. click on Save changes at the bottom

I’m stopping everything: it’s too complicated and I’m doing things that could disrupt the smooth running of my
my Google account. I think I’ll have to open another account for it to work with a new address.
In short, it doesn’t make much sense!
It’s so much easier on Bluewin.ch.

        Thanks again.

When I click on @user109’s link, my own first and last names appear instead of yours, the ones linked to my Gmail address. Weird, weird!

No, the link you clicked is designed to allow you to make the change directly in Gmail, as you wish. As you have a Gmail address, the user 109 link page opens with your personal details. However, if someone who doesn’t have a Gmail account clicks on this link, nothing will happen and they won’t be offered any option to change it. I hope you see what I mean. So don’t worry, your personal details haven’t been exposed on the forum.

Freimmientis36 I can’t do more than show you where you can change something. If you then panic because you don’t understand something, I can’t help that either, I only wanted to help you.🤷

With more information Click, I had hoped to be able to enlighten you about what the changes do.

Otherwise you can open a GMX account if Google is too complicated for you.
I have to admit that Google isn’t easy because there are so many services and settings, I can’t get my head round it at first, but with a Google search and the “With further information” help, I can still find what I’m looking for.

Yes, but why don’t you say anything about the link you offered me.
I know you were trying to help, as you do regularly here.
              So thank you.
I was overwhelmed and confused by it all… I even panicked a bit.
I hope you enjoy your evening.

Legal name and Google account information

Your legal name is the name you used when you first made a purchase or confirmed your identity on Google. It may also be the name you used to register for certain company products or services.

Why Google requires a legal name

Google uses your legal name to comply with regulations, enforce our transparency policies and prevent fraud.

                Legal name and display name

Your legal name does not have to be the same as your display name. The display name is the name you specified for use when you created your Google account.

Your display name and profile picture are displayed in most Google services. Your display name is visible to everyone who communicates with you or views content that you create in Google services.

Note: If you have previously had to verify your identity to use a Google product or service, your legal name may appear as Verified.

No, there is nothing dangerous. The link has been removed by moderation “DorotheaT”, it may be that this thread has nothing to do with Swisscom, although this is a forum dedicated to Swisscom. In any case, I will ask @DorotheaT why this link was deleted. Thanks in advance for your reply, it might help clarify the situation for the questioner.
