PM7300 and Fritzbox 4690 instructions

@cybi @user109 Here are my instructions, which work with the products mentioned in the Swisscom network:

  1. connect the Zyxel Bridge to the fibre optic socket and connect it to a PC with a network cable

  2. open Zyxel Web GUI with 192.168.0.1 and configure as a bridge (without VLAN!!) (changing the IP address is not so important on a bridge, I think)

  3. connect Zyxel with fritzbox 4690 at the WAN port and a PC at a LAN port

  4. open WEB-GUI of the Fritzbox, set country Switzerland, fibre optic modem, other Internet service provider, Swisscom, set VLAN 10

  5. to enter option 60 on the Fritzbox, you must export a backup as a file under System backup, open it with a text editor and add the line

    class_identifier = “100008,0001, ,AVM dhcpdiscover 1.0 dslforum.org”;

and save it. (use straight quotation marks!)

  6. so that the new file can be restored to the Fritzbox, it must be loaded with the FB Editor (runs with java - it is best to use an x64 Windows PC) with file-open and simply saved again (do not enter a user name or password!). This is necessary because the FB Editor creates a checksum, which is important.

  7. then import the file on the Fritzbox under System Restore.

  8. after a restart, the correct splash page should work at www.swisscom.ch/access!

  9. finally you can install the firmware updates of the Fritzbox and the Zyxel Bridge (update available on the studerus.ch page: PM7300 Firmware March 25)

  10. link FB Editor: FB Editor (exe and jar file)

Good luck with the setup!

    many thanks for the info

I tried it briefly but the Fritzbox does not accept the file when importing, invalid file. under which dns1 dns 2 did you enter it? there are several such entries.

    Thanks and greetings

I have already tried everything, with the same result, no valid import file.
If I don’t change anything, the import works but is rejected after changes.
      Very strange.

Well, I asked the AI and the problem was quickly found.

        Answer

You’re very close, but there’s a tiny little typo that the FRITZ!Box Config Parser doesn’t like at all 😄

        Problem:

The goose quotes “…” are typographical (i.e. smart quotes) instead of straight ASCII characters ".

I simply copied the line from the forum and didn’t notice the error.

So always pay attention to the little things 😆

So I did my first speed test.

          Down as usual 8Gig
          Up 4-5 Gig

I’ll probably have to take another look at the Zyxel bridge and update it
          It’s not the FB…..

user109 See also back then with vectoring and G.Fast with AVM.

At that time I had about 5-8% less speed on DSL with the FB compared to the IB

Here we are talking about a 50% drop in upload speed with fibre, which in my opinion should not be the case.

In the meantime I have noticed something else.

VoIP no longer works. Neither via Fritz nor directly on the Grandstream. Setting it up again didn’t help either.

I’ll probably have to try the Zyxel again 🤨 although there’s not much to set as a pure bridge.

            @Albatros2

Answer from Studerus who have clarified it with Zyxel:

Basically there are no restrictions with the PM7300.
The device takes over the provisioning settings from the OLT side.
