Waiting time for new router connection

  • Good evening,

Brief background information: My Internet subscription (Internet L and TV L) expires at the end of June. Accordingly, I wanted to cancel it at the end of June and take out a new subscription now and benefit from the current promotions (first 12 months 40% - 60% discount, and next 12 months normal price - this instead of the Airpods Max). I am aware that this promotion is only for new subscriptions for new customers. That’s why my intention was to subscribe to another user who is in the same household.

First question: Is this possible? In other words, can I benefit from the promotion even though the subscription is for the same household?

Second question: When I phoned customer service, I was told that there is an activation period between the cancellation of the old subscription and the new connection of the new one. She told me that I have to wait about 3 months until I can connect the new router with the new subscription and that I will simply be without wifi at home during this period. I am also aware that there is a cancellation period and that I can specify when the new subscription should be activated, which is why I think it is nonsense that I will simply be without wifi.

Does anyone know anything about this?

    Many thanks in advance!

I did it like this: because I wanted a new subscription with more bandwidth, I called my current provider (not Swisscom) and asked whether I absolutely had to cancel and switch to another provider or what was possible. Support then looked at my account, the minimum contract period had already expired some time ago. With these conditions, I was then able to take out a new subscription with the same provider at the conditions for new subscribers.
      It’s worth asking nicely.

You shouldn’t believe everything someone tells you.

Imagine a change of tenant where the change of contract takes place on a very specific day.
If Swisscom actually made the new tenant wait 3 months with the new contract, it would probably no longer be able to sell any new subscriptions, or people moving with an existing subscription would simply cancel and switch to the competition straight away 🙂

Speaking of competitors: If the price is very important to you and you are not interested in a flat rate for a landline number or in blue TV, then of course you can always get cheaper than a blue Internet subscription, even within Swisscom with the discount product Wingo with its permanently low prices, or then actually with the competition.

and will simply be at home without wifi during this period.

This has nothing to do with WLAN, you don’t have an internet connection.
I don’t know whether this waiting period really exists.
        I see 2 options:
        - temporarily connect a subscription with another provider (without 12 or 24 months gag contract, but normal 2-month cancellation period, then as a new customer to Swisscom.
        Or
        - talk to Swisscom about how they can accommodate you as a “loyal customer” and that you would like to benefit from the goodies as a new customer…. But remember that you then commit yourself for another 24 or even 36 months…..

Many thanks for your reply. I’m very happy to stay with Swisscom, I really like the connection and the fast Internet.

But do I understand correctly in this case? I can cancel my existing subscription as normal with two months’ notice and then take out the new subscription for a new user with the same household and can simply connect it to the Internet connection from the activation date?

You also have that with Wingo, because Wingo is Swisscom’s discount brand and Wingo uses 100% of the Swisscom infrastructure….

If you have a landline number, it will be lost unless you port it to a SIP provider beforehand or transfer it to another person/contract.

All recordings, channel lists, settings and any video purchases from blue TV will also be lost.

And I’m not going to advertise the rest, because it helps to think about it yourself and there is certainly no physical blocking period for a cancelled connection after the cancellation date.
