Fix IP Change

  • Hello, I currently have the 4 IP option from Swisscom and would now like to switch to 8 IPs. So far everything is OK. When I placed my order, Swisscom support told me that they can only give me the new fixed IP ranges once the new IPs have been switched on. Is that correct? I wanted to prepare myself with DNS entries and FW settings. Now I really have to wait?

    Do any of you have a tip on how I can get my new IPs before it is switched over?

      I have clarified this internally and received the following feedback:
      Regardless of whether you change from a single fixed IP to four fixed IPs or from four to eight - the process is always the same. A new IP block is allocated. This means that the “missing” IPs are not simply added, but a completely new block is provided.

      This new block is visible in My Swisscom and remains in “ready” status for 60 days before the system automatically activates it. This gives you as a customer around 60 days to make the necessary adjustments. However, you can also activate the new IP address range at any time before this period expires as soon as you are ready.

      If problems occur when activating the new IP range, restarting or resetting the router often helps.

      Never had it until now.

      I hope that Swisscom simply issues 4 additional IP from their range.

      Then the first 4 would stay and the user’s configuration would continue to run.

      Then he can adjust and test the firewall rule at his leisure and then activate it.

        Don’t know if that works, aren’t the IP addresses always in the same subnet? So currently it has a /30 and then after that a /29

        Of course, it could be that the next /30 is already assigned to someone else or otherwise in use and then of course you can’t simply extend it to a /29
