USB interface with Android update

Dear community

Until now I had my external USB hard drive connected to the Swisscom TV Box (model IP 2000). With the VLC PLayer app I then had access to the hard drive and was able to watch my videos very easily. Problem: Since the Android update, the VLC app can no longer be downloaded and installed via Swisscom. I downloaded and installed the VLC app from Google Playstore. The hard drive is not visible and therefore is not recognized. In the SCTV main menu there is only a message that a hard drive has been “safely removed” - this message was also visible before the VLC app was installed. Can someone help me here? I know.. a very specific question.

Many thanks for the quick response. I was already there in Google settings/storage. There is then the additional menu item “Removable media” - it says TOSHIBA EXT has been safely ejected. Could it possibly be related to NTFS format? My external hard drive is formatted NTFS - but it was that way before the update. Of course I can connect it directly to the TV. I need both remote controls again, which is tedious and the VLC Player app makes it much quicker to zap between the videos.

Hello. FAT32 (data limit 4GB) is recognized. XFAT is not recognized (hard drive safely ejected). Before the Google update everything worked wonderfully. The built-in microphone of the TV BOX (IP2000) also does not work. The command “hey Swisscom” is not understood - nor are any other commands. It looks like the voice function has simply been deactivated. Why is Swisscom doing this? That’s already a step backwards.

No problem, the voice control works for me via the remote control with the TV-Box.

If the micro from the remote control is activated in the menu and it no longer needs “Hey Swisscom” you can e.g. directly say SRF or RTL etc.

Installationen, Netzwerk, Internet, Computertechnik, OS Windows, Apple und Linux.

It works with the remote control without any problems. Before the Google update, it was possible directly via the TV box. The switch on the TV box was also “ON” before the update.

Hello @Viesayot10, I’m not sure, but the IB also has a USB Anschluss and, as far as I remember, has the option to function as a media server. Ev. does anyone know more. I thought that might be something as a temporary solution.

The “Mini-NAS” function of the USB interface of the Internet boxes was definitely deactivated by Swisscom almost two years ago in order to save costs, at the same time as the home app was abolished.

Since then, media storage directly on a Swisscom router has definitely come to an end.

@Werner, really now? You never stop learning but wow Swisscom WTF? And the USB-Anschluss on the latest box is used for what?

As already mentioned, the still existing USB-Anschluss can only be connected to a 4G mobile stick, or alternatively a cell phone in tethering mode as a replacement for the landline line.

Of course, you could also simply charge your cell phone, but who doesn’t have at least one charger at home anyway 🙂

I personally thought the decision at the time to abolish the possibility of media storage on the Internet boxes was strategically wrong - but that didn’t stop Swisscom from making it anyway.
