Hello Werner

Thank you for your feedback.

I did the following:

The DDNS set up on the IB3.

Set up the VPN on the IB3.

Transfer the data from the IB3 of the DDNS to the DNS.

The IB3 VPN data is set up on the laptop.

When I want to connect I get this message:

Unfortunately, you are still making a big mess without having already understood the basic logical connections of a VPN connection.

Now just forget about the disk station completely, because the VPN connection to the IB3’s VPN server has absolutely nothing to do with the Synology Diskstation.

The architecture is such that an external client from the Internet connects directly to the VPN server on the IB3 and thus becomes an equal part of your home network and thus also gains access to your disk station at the same time, just as if it were not connected at all Internet would come, but would be logged directly into your own LAN/WLAN.

Please first read the help instructions for the IB3 VPN server carefully and if you then want to use IB3’s own VPN connection with a Windows notebook, this will only work in the L2TP variant, as Swisscom supports the IKEv2 variant Windows is not supported at all yet.

Here is the direct link to the very detailed official instructions from Swisscom for setting up the VPN connection to an Internet box:

Yes, forwarding at Synology and Swisscom? How come? Either … or….

Good luck!

I also had the error message because of the DNS. I then switched the DNS server’s LAN settings from automatic to manual on the Synology NAS and specified the gateway there.

I also always used OpenVPN because it worked much better for me and I could also add my Pi-Hole to the config file there than DNS Resolver.

I now only use Wireguard on my Raspberry Pi and Tailscale on the Synology as a backup.

I somehow can’t manage it…

…when I want to connect to the laptop, this message appears!

I have made the following settings to establish a VPN connection with the laptop to the Swisscom router:

The whole thing doesn’t connect, can someone help me again please🙏
I thank you.

@Greingauhieg26

You can immediately reset the firewall on the IB to the default “Strict” because that has nothing to do with your client configuration problem.

The link to the detailed instructions for the settings for the different clients can already be found in post #5.

You can choose which client you need help for, and then it is explained field by field which field from the VPN server must be entered into which field from the client definition.

If you actually manage to stick to it 100.0%, it should work without any problems.

As @Werner wrote, read the instructions carefully, a little tip:

For Windows you have to choose L2TP, then Windows.

For VPN type: L2TP, not automatic. Then you have to go to the network adapter settings and activate “Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2”) –> see Figure 3-5 in the instructions, it is described in detail there

I’ve set everything up now and it works.

The VPN connection to the home router is established with my cell phone and laptop when I am external.

However, I cannot open folders from my DNS:

Can someone help me, what am I doing wrong?

    >You cannot access the VPN using the Netbios name. Try using the IP. (enter >\192.168.1.XX\in the bar at the top, replace XX with the IP of the DS)

If Windows, you can of course modify the host file:

Edit Windows 11 HOSTS file - Windows FAQ (windows-faq.de)

    The following entry:

    192.168.1.XX YOURSYNOLOGY

    This is how you can

    \DEINSYNOLOGY access

    Good luck!
