Copper wire adapter

Hi,

I have just left my apartment with fibre connection to move to an older house with a copper line.

The router the previous people left behind has a copper wire (exposed copper) in a round jack.

Swisscom have told me that I need to buy an adapter to attach to connect it to an Ethernet-style internet jack. But I cannot

find anything online that fits this purpose.

Can it be done? I’m at a loss how to progress.

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated, as I am without any home connection at this stage.

The simplest but most expensive approach is to call an electrician to mount a more modern socket.

Otherwise, take a photo of the socket and go to the electronics store. They’ll be able to tell you which adapter you need and if they have it.

So I called Swisscom again, and they said that they do not use the port I have described and said that different providers use different lines (which I cannot get my head around!). The previous residents had an account with Net+

They said that I should look for an old-style TV socket - which I am yet to be able to do, thanks to the copious numbers of boxes blocking each room.

Thank you for the helpful replies regarding converters. Though if Swisscom are telling me that there is a different supply line, then an adapter won’t help.

Unfortunately despite the availability of fibre in my commune, it’s not in my neighbourhood.

So my internet-less states continues!

if the electrical socket looks like the photo

it’s best to call a Siwsscom-certified electrician for proper installation
