initial freeze when connected to 2 switches

Hello everyone

I have my TV-BOX connected to a NetGear GS305, so far so good. Now, few weeks ago I decided to add another switch (Netgear MS108EUP) between my tv-box and the GS305 (will be replaced soon).

For the first 2 weeks it worked perfectly, after that, I’m facing this issue:

when I start the TV on a HD or UHD program, live TV starts and freezes after about 5 seconds. Then it stays like that for about 30-45 secs and then it works perfectly.

I have no issue if I watch replay / registration.

Of course I tried the obvious: restart the switch, change cable, disconnect everything,…

Nothing has changed as far as I know (not even the firmware on my switch). I tried all the settings I could change (IGMP on / off, flow control,…) but nothing. When I connect the tv box directly to the GS305 it works, if I connect another GS305 (so tv-box -> gs305 -> gs305 -> swisscom router) the problem is much worse: the image frezzes and then never come back.

I tested the switch with other devices and I can’t see problem, the speed is there, no packet loss, nothing. I also have a streaming 4k device and it works perfectly. As I mentioned before, I tried even with just the TV-box connected to the switch. Nothing.

Any suggestion?

Thanks @Black Mamba but I did it already and they told me “just plug the box directly to the router” and yes, it is not a solution for me.

Try over WiFi if your TV-Box supports it.

If you need to connect it wired and use switches, there is the TP-Link switch with Swisscom specific settings.

You should ensure that the 2 switches have the appropriate config to allow multicast. In your case (switch cascade) the config must be slightly adjusted, as the 2d switch is connected to the first one, not to the router. Check this post and let me know if that helps.
